Position Summary
The Senior Accountant is responsible for ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of fixed asset accounting and turnaround financial activities. This role manages the fixed asset lifecycle, capital project accounting, and turnaround cost control while providing financial insights that support effective decision-making and compliance with accounting standards, regulatory requirements, and company policies.
Position Responsibilities
- Maintain the fixed assets register, ensuring accurate recording, classification, depreciation, transfers, disposals, and retirements in accordance with accounting standards and company policies.
- Prepare fixed asset reconciliations and reporting, support physical asset verification activities, and monitor asset impairments and capitalization.
- Manage the Authorization for Expenditure (AFE) lifecycle, including financial reviews, budget tracking, variance analysis, project capitalization, and timely project closure.
- Monitor capital expenditure and turnaround (TAR) costs, ensuring appropriate accounting treatment, accurate cost capture, timely accruals, and effective budget control.
- Partner with operational and project teams to support budgeting, forecasting, and post-project financial analysis for turnaround activities.
- Analyze capital expenditure and turnaround spending trends to identify process improvement opportunities and support asset lifecycle optimization.
- Maintain strong financial controls over fixed assets, capital projects, and turnaround accounting while ensuring compliance with IFRS, Egyptian Accounting Standards (EAS), and internal policies.
- Support internal and external audits by preparing documentation, financial analysis, and participating in SOX self-testing activities related to fixed assets and capital expenditure processes.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, including enhancements to asset management and project accounting processes and systems.
Position Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
Experience
- 7–8 years of accounting experience, including significant experience in fixed assets, capital expenditure (Capex), and/or project accounting.
- Experience managing asset lifecycle accounting, financial reporting, reconciliations, and capital project controls.
- Experience in industrial, oil & gas, chemicals, or manufacturing environments is preferred.
- Exposure to Turnaround (TAR) or shutdown accounting is considered an advantage.
Technical Knowledge & Skills
- Strong knowledge of IFRS, Egyptian Accounting Standards (EAS), and financial reporting principles.
- Experience preparing and analyzing financial statements, balance sheets, and variance analysis.
- Understanding of tax regulations and accounting compliance requirements.
- Strong analytical, reconciliation, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
- Experience using ERP systems.
Certifications
- Postgraduate accounting or finance certifications are considered an asset.
