About the Role
We're looking for a Senior Asterisk Developer to join our engineering team and take ownership of our voice infrastructure. You'll work on the core telephony systems that power our communications platform, handling real production call traffic.
This is a hands-on senior role for someone who can architect, build, and scale Asterisk-based telephony systems — not a maintenance position.
What You'll Do
- Design, develop, and maintain Asterisk-based telephony systems (PBX, IVR, ACD, call routing, queuing)
- Build and optimize SIP trunking, VoIP call flows, and integrations with telecom carriers and SIP providers
- Develop custom dialplans, AGI/AMI scripts, and Asterisk modules to support advanced routing logic (VIP routing, skill-based routing, callback queues, etc.)
- Work on our custom-edited Asterisk engine, extending and modifying core functionality using C++ and Python
- Ensure high availability, call quality, and low-latency performance across concurrent call loads
- Implement and maintain call recording, monitoring, live coaching, and quality management features
- Troubleshoot and resolve production issues related to call quality, SIP signaling, NAT traversal, codecs, and network configuration
- Support security and compliance requirements (TLS/SRTP encryption, call masking, environment isolation)
- Contribute to architecture decisions for scaling and hardening the voice platform
- Document technical designs
What We're Looking For
- 5+ years of hands-on experience with Asterisk in a production environment
- Strong knowledge of SIP protocol, RTP/SRTP, VoIP fundamentals, and telecom carrier integrations
- Proficiency with Asterisk dialplan (extensions.conf), AGI, AMI, and ARI
- Experience building or supporting IVR systems, ACD, call queuing, and call routing logic
- Solid Linux administration skills (server setup, networking, firewalls, NAT/SIP troubleshooting)
- Familiarity with integrating Asterisk with external systems via REST APIs or webhooks
- Proficiency in C++ and Python, with experience customizing or extending Asterisk's core engine
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to debug complex, live call quality issues
- Experience with WebRTC
- Experience with call recording, compliance, and data residency requirements
