Role Purpose
The Senior Automation Engineer is responsible for the design, development, implementation, and commissioning of advanced automation and digitalization solutions, including SCADA, BMS, PLC, DCS, and IoT-based systems.
The role supports the delivery of Industry 4.0 and smart solutions, ensuring efficient, scalable, and reliable system integration across industrial and infrastructure projects.
Key Responsibilities
1. System Design & Engineering
- Design and develop automation solutions based on project requirements and client specifications.
- Prepare control system architecture, IO lists, functional design specifications (FDS), and technical submittals.
- Develop system designs for:
- SCADA systems
- BMS (Building Management Systems)
- PLC / DCS-based control systems
- IoT and smart monitoring solutions
2. Programming & Configuration
- Develop and configure PLC, SCADA, and BMS programs using industry-standard platforms.
- Perform HMI/SCADA graphics development and system configuration.
- Integrate systems using protocols such as BACnet, Modbus, OPC, MQTT.
3. System Integration
- Ensure seamless communication between field devices, controllers, and supervisory systems.
- Support integration with enterprise systems and digital platforms.
4. Testing & Commissioning
- Conduct Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT).
- Lead on-site commissioning activities and ensure systems are fully operational.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues during commissioning and post-installation.
5. Project Execution & Coordination
- Collaborate with project managers, clients, and cross-functional teams.
- Ensure engineering deliverables are completed on time and within budget.
- Provide technical support during project lifecycle, including tendering and execution phases.
6. Documentation & Compliance
- Prepare detailed technical documentation, reports, and as-built drawings.
- Ensure compliance with project specifications, international standards, and client requirements.
7. Continuous Improvement & Innovation
- Stay updated with emerging technologies in Industry 4.0, IoT, and digital transformation.
- Recommend innovative solutions to enhance system performance and efficiency.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Electronics, Instrumentation, or Control Engineering.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in automation and system integration.
- Proven experience in SCADA, BMS, PLC, and industrial automation systems.
- Experience in Saudi Arabia or GCC projects preferred.
Technical Skills
- Hands-on experience with PLC platforms (e.g., Siemens, Schneider Electric, Allen-Bradley)
- Experience with SCADA systems (e.g., WinCC, Wonderware, Ignition)
- Knowledge of BMS/DDC systems
- Familiarity with communication protocols: BACnet, Modbus, OPC
- Understanding of IoT, data acquisition, and smart systems
- Ability to read electrical drawings, P&IDs, and control schematics
