Senior Data Analyst I

About the Role

You will be a part of a pool of analysts responsible for analyzing the financial performance of the Business Unit Life & Health Reinsurance (BU LH Re). We support our leading client managers and underwriters in managing and steering their client relationships and portfolios. In this role, you will work closely with all teams within BU LH Re Finance across locations to drive digital transformation and analytics initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

• Gather requirements from sub-BU teams (Market FPA, Reporting Controlling, etc.) and ensure data availability with required granularity.
• Apply big data analytics to gather and assess data validity.
• Capture requirements related to business questions, performance drivers, and critical metrics.
• Use existing data knowledge to deliver insights on performance drivers.
• Simplify the data tools landscape by identifying automation opportunities and reducing manual, repetitive tasks.
• Build, own, and manage BU-specific tools and dashboards in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
• Perform data quality checks on all developed tools/solutions.
• Promote team-built tools/solutions and create awareness on their benefits.
• Maintain existing reporting platforms and perform change management.
• Support planning and projections through participation in BU projects.
• Use analytical and communication skills to deliver valuable insights.
• Adapt quickly to new and changing technologies and systems.
• Collaborate with BU Finance and cross-functional teams on key initiatives.
• Contribute to ad-hoc projects and support team members as needed.

About the Team

The Data and Analytics team supports Swiss Re's strategic goal of driving digital transformation. We provide data tool solutions to business teams like Market FPA and RC, enabling more effective and efficient reporting and analytics. This allows business units to focus more on analysis and less on report preparation.

About You

Education & Experience

• University degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Operations Research, Engineering, Computer Science, Econometrics, or a related field.
• 7+ years of experience in (re)insurance analytics, data engineering, or MIS reporting.

Technical Skills

• Proficiency in PySpark (ETL).
• Strong command of relational databases (SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL) and writing SQL queries.
• Knowledge of visualization tools and Palantir preferred.
• Familiarity with Excel macros, HTML, CSS, JavaScript is a plus.
• Understanding of financial reporting processes, US GAAP, and IFRS frameworks is an advantage.
• Skilled in Power Query, Pivot, and DAX.
• Proficient in MS Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Access).
