Role Description
This is a full-time on-site role for a hands-on Senior Database Manager located in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The Senior Database Manager will own, design, secure, and scale mission-critical databases that support a high-volume global trading platform.
You will be responsible for performance, integrity, security, and availability of trading, financial, and user-data systems operating 24/7 across multiple regions.
You will work closely with backend engineers, DevOps, compliance, and risk teams to ensure data systems meet regulatory, latency, and reliability requirements expected from a global broker.
Key Responsibilities
Database Architecture & Performance
- Design, manage, and optimize high-availability, low-latency database architectures
- Own OLTP and analytical databases supporting trading, pricing, risk, reporting, and CRM
- Optimize queries, indexing strategies, replication, and sharding
- Ensure databases scale smoothly during peak market volatility
Reliability & Availability
- Implement replication, clustering, and failover strategies
- Own backup, restore, and disaster recovery plans (RPO / RTO)
- Monitor database health, latency, locks, and throughput in real time
- Lead root-cause analysis for database-related incidents
Security & Compliance
- Enforce data security, encryption, and access control
- Support compliance requirements (financial data, audit trails, GDPR, AML data retention)
- Implement logging and traceability for sensitive trading and financial data
- Work with compliance and security teams during audits
Data Integrity & Accuracy
- Guarantee transactional consistency for balances, PnL, trades, and settlements
- Prevent data corruption, race conditions, and reconciliation issues
- Own data validation and integrity checks across systems
Collaboration & Leadership
- Act as the database authority across the engineering organization
- Review backend designs and challenge unsafe or inefficient data patterns
- Mentor engineers on database best practices
- Define database standards, documentation, and operational runbooks
Required Skills & Experience
Technical
- 7+ years working with production databases in high-traffic systems
- Strong experience with PostgreSQL / MySQL / MSSQL (at least one at expert level)
- Experience with NoSQL systems (Redis, MongoDB, Cassandra, or similar)
- Deep understanding of:
- Transactions, isolation levels, locking
- Replication and failover
- Query optimization and indexing
- Experience in cloud environments (AWS / GCP / Azure)
- Familiarity with monitoring tools (Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, etc.)
Domain (Highly Preferred)
- Experience in trading platforms, brokers, fintech, payments, or exchanges
- Understanding of balances, ledgers, margin, settlements, and financial reconciliation
- Comfort working with real-money systems where mistakes are costly
Nice to Have
- Experience with event-driven architectures (Kafka, streams)
- Exposure to data warehousing / analytics (Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift)
- Knowledge of regulatory reporting and audit requirements
- Experience supporting 24/5 or 24/7 trading systems
