Job Description

Senior Practice Director – Hardware Engineering

We are seeking an accomplished Senior Director – Proposal Creation to spearhead the strategy, development, and delivery of high-value proposals for our cutting-edge hardware and medical device solutions. Reporting to the executive leadership team, you will fuse deep technical acumen in analog and digital design with first-class commercial insight, guiding cross-functional experts to craft winning proposals that secure business and sustain our growth trajectory.

Responsibilities

  • Own the end-to-end proposal creation process for complex hardware and medical device programs, ensuring on-time, high-quality submissions that meet customer and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead and mentor a global, multidisciplinary proposal team spanning engineering, finance, legal, quality, and sales functions.
  • Translate client requirements into compelling technical and commercial solutions, leveraging expertise in analog, digital, and board-level design.
  • Drive strategic account management initiatives, cultivating executive-level relationships to identify new opportunities and expand existing business.
  • Develop pricing, risk mitigation, and delivery strategies that balance competitiveness with profitability.
  • Ensure compliance with FDA, ISO 13485, and other relevant medical device regulations within all proposal documentation.
  • Establish and refine proposal management frameworks, best practices, and tools to increase efficiency and win rates.
  • Collaborate with R&D and product management to align proposal offerings with the company's technology roadmap.
  • Present proposals to internal governance boards and external stakeholders, clearly articulating value propositions and technical differentiators.
  • Continuously analyze market trends, customer feedback, and competitor activities to inform proposal strategy and positioning.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 20–27 years of progressive experience in hardware engineering, with significant exposure to analog, digital, and board design for medical devices or similarly regulated industries.
  • Proven track record of leading large-scale, multimillion-dollar proposal efforts and achieving high win rates.
  • Deep understanding of hardware development lifecycles, design verification/validation, and regulatory compliance (FDA, ISO 13485, IEC 60601, etc.).
  • Demonstrated excellence in strategic account management, customer engagement, and contract negotiation.
  • Exceptional leadership skills with experience building and motivating cross-functional, geographically dispersed teams.
  • Strong financial acumen to develop competitive pricing models, margin analyses, and business cases.
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Expertise using proposal management and collaboration tools (e.g., CRM, PLM, SharePoint, MS Project).

Nice To Have

  • MBA or advanced business qualification.
  • PMP, APMP, or equivalent proposal/project management certification.
  • Experience integrating AI/ML or IoT technologies into medical or hardware products.
  • Background working with government or defense contracting processes (e.g., FAR, DFARS).
  • Fluency in additional languages and experience leading multicultural, global teams.
