Senior Draughtsman

About this role:

Technical Drawings & Drafting

Prepare detailed 2D and 3D drawings, layouts, and blueprints for landscaping projects, including softscape, hardscape, irrigation, and drainage systems.

Develop shop drawings, as-built drawings, and construction details to support project execution.

Ensure all drawings are dimensionally accurate, technically sound, and compliant with project specifications.

Work closely with landscape architects and engineers to interpret design concepts and translate them into precise technical drawings.

CAD & Design Software Utilization

Utilize AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp, GIS, Civil 3D, and other design software to produce high-quality landscaping drawings.

Ensure compatibility of drawings with BIM (Building Information Modeling) standards, if applicable.

Regularly update and modify drawings based on project revisions, ensuring the latest versions are always available.

Coordination & Collaboration

Collaborate with landscape architects, civil engineers, project managers, and site supervisors to ensure alignment of designs with construction requirements.

Coordinate with MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing) teams to integrate landscaping elements with infrastructure services.

Work closely with procurement teams to ensure drawings align with material specifications and availability.

Site Support & Field Verification

Conduct site visits to verify dimensions, assess construction progress, and ensure compliance with approved drawings.

Adjust and update drawings based on on-site conditions, client feedback, and design modifications.

Provide technical assistance to construction teams regarding drawing interpretation and execution.

Compliance & Quality Control

Ensure all drawings comply with local municipal regulations, zoning laws, environmental standards, and client requirements.

Conduct quality checks on drawings to identify and correct errors before submission.

Maintain drawing records, revision logs, and documentation for audits and approvals.

As-Built Documentation & Handover

Prepare as-built drawings at the end of the project, reflecting all changes made during construction.

Ensure all final drawings are properly documented and submitted for project handover and client approval.

Continuous Improvement & Training

Stay updated on industry trends, new drafting techniques, and software advancements to improve drawing quality and efficiency.

Train and mentor junior draughtsmen to enhance the overall drafting capabilities of the team.

Qualifications:

Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Architectural Drafting, Civil Engineering, Landscape Architecture, or a related field.

Certification in AutoCAD, Revit, GIS, or other relevant design software (preferred).

710 years of experience in landscape drafting, civil engineering, or architectural drafting, with a focus on hardscape, softscape, irrigation, and drainage systems.

Proven experience in preparing detailed construction drawings, shop drawings, and as-built plans for landscaping projects.

Technical Skills

AutoCAD & Revit Expertise Strong proficiency in 2D and 3D drafting for landscaping projects.

Landscape Design Software

Experience using SketchUp, Civil 3D, GIS, and Lumion for visualization and design.

Topographic & Grading Plans Ability to create grading, drainage, and contour mapping for landscape projects.

Irrigation & Drainage System Drafting Knowledge of pipe layouts, water flow calculations, and irrigation network designs.

Hardscape & Softscape Design Drawings Preparing detailed plans for paving, walkways, plant arrangements, and outdoor structures.

Building Information Modeling (BIM) Experience with BIM workflows and coordination for integrated project execution.

Survey & GIS Data Interpretation Ability to work with topographic surveys and geospatial data for landscape planning.

Drafting & Documentation

Detailed Construction Drawings Strong attention to detail in producing accurate shop drawings, as-built plans, and layout blueprints.

Material Specifications & BOQs

Ability to prepare Bill of Quantities (BOQs) and material specifications based on project requirements.

Regulatory Compliance & Standards Familiarity with municipal regulations, zoning laws, and environmental sustainability guidelines.

Drawing Revision & Version Control Maintaining proper documentation of updates, modifications, and approvals for all design plans.

Site Visits & Field Verification Conducting on-site inspections to verify dimensions, assess progress, and adjust drawings accordingly.

Collaboration with Engineers & Architects

Coordinating with civil engineers, landscape architects, and MEP teams to ensure project accuracy.

Project Deadline Management

Strong ability to prioritize multiple projects and meet strict submission timelines.

Attention to Detail

Ensuring precision in measurements, scaling, and technical detailing.

Problem-Solving & Adaptability Ability to identify design discrepancies and propose practical solutions.

Communication & Teamwork

Strong ability to liaise with project managers, consultants, and field teams.

Training & Mentorship

Capable of guiding and mentoring junior draughtsman and design assistants.
