Slack Migration Engineer
About the Client
Our client is one of the world's leading meal kit companies, delivering more than 120 million meals annually to over 4 million households across 14 countries and 3 continents. Their technology ecosystem powers a wide range of business-critical functions, including procurement tools, conversion rate optimization, live pricing systems, payment services, and upselling platforms.
As part of a major enterprise initiative, the company is undertaking a migration of 10,000+ users from Slack Enterprise Select to Slack Enterprise+ and is seeking an experienced engineer to lead the technical workstream of this business-critical project.
The Opportunity
We are looking for a highly autonomous and technically strong engineer who can independently own the technical risk surface of the migration. This role requires making critical decisions around application compatibility, designing testing methodologies from scratch, creating operational runbooks, and bridging the gap between Slack's recommendations and the organization's need for operational certainty.
You will be responsible for the technical workstream end-to-end, ensuring a seamless migration with minimal disruption to business operations.
What You'll Do
- Lead the technical risk assessment for Slack applications, workflows, integrations, and custom automations
- Evaluate app compatibility and provide clear migration readiness recommendations
- Design and execute migration testing strategies, including smoke tests and downtime scenario validation
- Develop comprehensive runbooks that can be executed under time-sensitive conditions
- Coordinate with app owners, workflow owners, internal stakeholders, and Slack Professional Services teams
- Translate Slack guidance into practical implementation plans while identifying risks and mitigation strategies
- Make informed technical decisions regarding:
- App compatibility classifications
- Testing methodologies
- Sandbox configurations
- Runbook content
- Vendor engagement and escalation approaches
- Ensure the migration is thoroughly tested, operationally sound, and minimizes business disruption
Required Qualifications
Technical Skills
- Strong experience with JavaScript, TypeScript, and Python
- Deep understanding of Slack's platform architecture, including:
- Web API
- Events API
- RTM API
- Webhooks
- Workflows
- Bot tokens
- OAuth scopes
- Slack apps and legacy integrations
- Experience with enterprise-scale Slack administration or Slack application development
- Hands-on experience with AWS
- Ability to review, assess, and make risk-based decisions on custom application code across multiple languages and frameworks
- Experience designing testing methodologies independently, including validation of hard and soft downtime scenarios
Professional Skills
- Strong operational discipline and experience creating detailed runbooks
- Ability to work independently and navigate ambiguity
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
- Proven ownership mindset and decision-making capability
- Upper-Intermediate English level or higher
Nice to Have
- Experience leading enterprise SaaS platform migrations
- Familiarity with Slack Workflow Builder, Zapier, and custom workflow automation platforms
- Experience with SSO and SCIM provisioning in enterprise environments
- Background supporting operations, logistics, manufacturing, or food production environments
- Understanding of operationally critical workflows and their business impact
