Senior Infrastructure Systems Engineer

About the Role
We're working with a cutting-edge technology organisation developing mission-critical systems in highly secure environments. They are looking for a senior infrastructure systems engineer to design and deliver robust, scalable infrastructure solutions supporting advanced platforms.
This is a high-impact role at the intersection of infrastructure, networking and secure systems engineering, with real-world deployment across complex environments.
What You'll Be Doing
- Design and architect scalable, secure infrastructure across physical, virtual and containerised environments
- Build fault-tolerant, high-availability systems for mission-critical applications
- Lead deployment of virtualisation platforms and container orchestration (e.g., Kubernetes, Docker)
- Design and implement monitoring systems for performance, availability and capacity
- Develop disaster recovery and business continuity strategies
- Support design of systems within the communications domain
- Integrate commercial and custom hardware/software into secure environments
- Work closely with engineering teams to ensure smooth deployment and system rollout
- Produce clear technical documentation and architecture diagrams
What We're Looking For
- 8+ years experience in Infrastructure/Systems Engineering or Network Engineering
- Strong experience designing high-availability, fault-tolerant systems
- Solid understanding of network architecture (LAN/WAN, VPNs, BGP, OSPF, VLANs, etc.)
- Hands-on experience with:
- Virtualisation (VMware, KVM, etc.)
- Containers (Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift)
- Monitoring tools (Prometheus, Zabbix, Nagios, Splunk)
- Experience designing distributed systems and enterprise-grade data centres
- Knowledge of cloud or hybrid infrastructure environments
- Strong understanding of disaster recovery, backup and replication strategies
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work across teams
Nice to Have
- Experience in defence, government, or secure environments
- Knowledge of PKI, Zero Trust, or security frameworks (ISO27001, NIST, etc.)
- Familiarity with infrastructure automation/Infrastructure-as-Code
- Exposure to MIL-STD or similar standards
