Role Summary
The Senior Interior Designer plays a pivotal leadership role within the studio, responsible for setting design direction, overseeing multiple projects, and ensuring consistent delivery of high-quality outcomes. This role combines creative leadership, technical authority, client partnership, and team development with accountability for design integrity from concept through site completion.
Key Responsibilities:
Design Leadership & Strategy
- Lead overall design direction across multiple interior projects, ensuring alignment with SHIFT Design's creative standards and client objectives
- Translate client briefs into strong design narratives, concepts, and commercially viable solutions
- Set and uphold design quality benchmarks across all project stages
Project Oversight & Delivery
- Oversee end-to-end project delivery from concept design to IFC, construction, and handover
- Review and approve design outputs, technical drawings, specifications, and joinery details
- Provide strategic design input during value engineering without compromising design intent
- Ensure compliance with local authority regulations, codes, and project requirements
Client & Stakeholder Management
- Act as a senior design representative in client presentations, design workshops, and negotiations
- Build long-term client relationships through trusted design leadership and delivery excellence
- Collaborate closely with Project Managers, consultants, contractors, and suppliers to resolve design and site challenges
Team Leadership & Development
- Lead, mentor, and develop interior designers and junior team members
- Review team outputs, provide structured feedback, and guide professional growth
- Support resource planning, workload allocation, and design resourcing across projects
Studio & Business Contribution
- Contribute to studio-wide design standards, templates, and best practices
- Support bid proposals, design pitches, and concept submissions as required
- Provide input into process improvement, design efficiency, and delivery optimization
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Interior Design or Architecture
- Minimum 7 to 10 years of progressive interior design experience, with proven leadership responsibility
- Extensive experience delivering high-value fit-out projects in the GCC (Qatar experience strongly preferred)
- Expert-level proficiency in AutoCAD; strong working knowledge of Revit, SketchUp, 3Ds Max, Lumion
- Deep technical understanding of materials, finishes, joinery, FF&E, and construction detailing
- Demonstrated client-facing leadership and multi-project oversight capability
- Strong knowledge of local authority approval processes and site coordination
- Excellent leadership, communication, and decision-making skills
