Climate Risk Governance & Framework Development
- Lead the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of the Climate Risk Management Framework.
- Develop and maintain related policies, standards, and risk appetite statements.
- Drive integration of climate risk considerations across key risk types; credit, operational, market, liquidity, and reputational.
- Establish and support governance forums, including climate risk committees and ESG steering committees.
- Develop and implement climate and climate risk- and sustainability- related frameworks, policies, SOPs and process.
- Develop and implement Climate Risk RCSA and monitoring framework, including identification of climaterelated operational and financial risks (physical & transition risks), assessment of inherent and residual risk levels, evaluation of control effectiveness, and establishment of Climate Risk KRIs to monitor exposure, vulnerabilities, and early warning signals across business units.
- Ensure alignment with emerging regulatory expectations, including the Principles for Effective Management of ClimateRelated Financial Risks (2023), the SustainabilityRelated Disclosure Principles (2024), and any subsequent supervisory updates issued by the Central Bank of the UAE or other relevant bodies. The role is responsible for strengthening regulatory compliance, enhancing climaterisk data quality and analytics capabilities, and supporting the UAE's national climate transition objectives, including the commitment to Net Zero 2050
Climate Risk Identification, Stress Testing & Scenario Analysis
- Lead climate related scenario analysis using NGFS, TCFD, and regulator-issued pathways.
- Oversee physical and transition risk assessments across portfolios and sectors.
- Evaluate climaterelated impacts on asset quality, business activities, and strategic planning.
- Develop and implement ICAAP, stress testing and capital planning from a climate risk lens.
Data, Metrics & Model Development
- Develop climaterisk data taxonomies and oversee climaterelated financial risk data collection, quality controls, and system integration, as required under the CBUAE regulation.
- Lead the calculation and monitoring of climaterelated metrics (e.g., financed emissions, carbon intensity, credit portfolio alignment).
- Coordinate with IT/Data teams to implement tools and dashboards supporting climate risk identification and monitoring.
Regulatory Compliance & Reporting:
- Ensure full compliance with CBUAE Regulation C8/2025, including submission of climaterisk information as required by the Central Bank.
- Prepare and present climate risk submissions for internal governance forums, including risk committees, senior management reviews, and Boardlevel reporting packs, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and alignment with regulatory expectations.
- Support the wider Financial and NonFinancial Risk Management function, contributing to activities across ERM, Market Risk, Liquidity Risk, and Operational Risk, and ensuring that climate related risks are integrated into the bank's broader risk frameworks and decision-making processes.
Experience & Knowledge
- Bachelor's or Master's in Finance, Economics, Risk Management, Environmental Science, Climate Science, engineering or related field.
- Minimum 5 years in risk management, climate/ESG risk, or sustainability.
- Strong experience with regulatory frameworks, stress testing, and risk modelling.
- Strong understanding of Risk Governance and Enterprise risk, including ERM, ICAAP, risk appetite, Liquidity Risk, Market Risk, IRRBB, and IFRS9 ECL, Operational Risk and CBUAE regulations would be ideal.
Competencies & Skills
