  • Conduct preliminary review of research protocols involving human participants, including new applications, amendments, continuing reviews, reportable events, and matters of non-compliance, ensuring adherence to applicable policies, regulations, and ethical standards.
  • Ensure the effective administration and operation of the Institutional Review Board (IRB), including overseeing IRB meetings, quorum and attendance requirements, documentation of decisions, and follow-up actions.
  • Serve as a liaison with Principal Investigators (PIs), research teams, IRB members, and institutional stakeholders on matters relating to ethical review, regulatory compliance, and IRB decisions.
  • Facilitate the resolution of complex issues and disputes involving researchers, IRB members, IRB Chair, institutional stakeholders, and other parties involved in human participant research.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with ethics committees and IRBs locally and internationally to exchange best practices and strengthen the governance of the SMU IRB.
  • Undertake any other administrative duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's degree , preferably in social sciences or legal disciplines.
  • At least 5 years of work experience.
  • Experience in human research protection programs, research ethics, IRB administration, or the review of research involving human participants is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of applicable regulations, guidelines, standards, and best practices governing the conduct of research involving human participants.
  • Familiarity with Singapore regulatory requirements, including the Human Biomedical Research Act (HBRA), Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA), and other relevant research governance frameworks, would be an advantage.
  • Excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities effectively while contributing as part of a collaborative team.
  • Strong analytical, organisational, and problem-solving skills, with a high degree of accuracy, and attention to detail.
