Job Description

GCL is seeking an experienced and highly competent Senior Materials Engineer to lead and manage all materials engineering activities across construction, infrastructure, and landscape projects. The role ensures full compliance with contract specifications, international standards, and quality requirements while supporting project delivery, cost control, and technical excellence.

Key Accountabilities

  • Lead and manage all material engineering activities including submittals, approvals, testing, inspection, and documentation.
  • Review and approve contractor, subcontractor, and supplier material submittals in line with project specifications, contract requirements, and international standards (ASTM, BS, AASHTO, ISO, UAE Authority standards).
  • Act as the technical authority for all material-related matters across landscape, infrastructure, and construction projects.
  • Oversee and supervise material testing activities including laboratory and field testing for:
  • Concrete, asphalt, soil, aggregates, steel
  • Landscape materials (topsoil, irrigation materials, geotextiles, turf, pavers, etc.)
  • Ensure only approved materials are delivered, stored, and incorporated into the project.
  • Conduct site inspections and audits to verify compliance with specifications, approved materials, and quality standards.
  • Lead coordination with consultants, laboratories, suppliers, and subcontractors on all material-related matters.
  • Identify non-conforming materials and lead corrective and preventive actions.
  • Review and approve Certificates of Compliance, MSDS, test reports, and technical documentation.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to materials engineers, QA/QC engineers, and site teams.
  • Support procurement in prequalification and technical evaluation of material suppliers and manufacturers.
  • Optimize material selection for durability, sustainability, and cost efficiency without compromising quality.
  • Prepare and review quality control procedures, material logs, and technical reports.
  • Monitor project material schedules and ensure timely availability aligned with construction progress.
  • Identify risks related to materials and propose technical solutions to the Technical Manager.
  • Ensure compliance with local authorities and regulatory requirements

Experience & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering / Materials Engineering (Master's Degree is an advantage).
  • Minimum 10–15 years of experience in materials engineering within:
  • Infrastructure / Roads / Utilities
  • Construction / Buildings
  • Landscape projects
  • Strong experience in large-scale projects and construction supervision.
  • UAE / GCC project experience preferred.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

Technical Skills

  • Strong expertise in construction and landscape materials and material testing procedures.
  • Deep knowledge of international standards (ASTM, BS, AASHTO, ISO) and UAE authority requirements.
  • Strong experience in material submittals, mix design approval, and laboratory coordination.
  • Ability to analyze technical data and resolve complex material-related issues.
  • Knowledge of sustainable and green materials is an advantage.

  • Excellent coordination and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong technical reporting and documentation capability.
  • High analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication skills in English (Arabic is an advantage).
