The Senior Mechanical Engineer - Wet Mechanical Systems shall be responsible for the design, engineering, and delivery of wet mechanical utility systems for industrial facilities within the semiconductor, electronics, biopharmaceutical, data center, and related industries.
Wet mechanical systems include Chilled Water Systems (CHW), Condenser Water Systems (CW), Process Cooling Water Systems (PCW), Industrial Water Systems, Utility Water Systems, Pumping Systems, Central Utility Plants, and associated equipment, piping networks, and supporting infrastructure.
Duties & Responsibilities
Responsible for Concept, Basic, and Detailed Engineering Design of wet mechanical utility systems.
Perform engineering calculations including cooling load calculations, equipment sizing, pipe sizing, hydraulic analysis, pressure drop calculations, pump head calculations, and utility distribution system sizing.
Develop engineering deliverables including Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), system schematics, layouts, technical specifications, and design reports.
Design Chilled Water, Condenser Water, Process Cooling Water, Industrial Water, and Utility Water systems for new and existing manufacturing, laboratory, and industrial facilities.
Conduct feasibility studies, technical assessments, and conceptual design development for mechanical utility systems.
Perform chilled water plant optimization and Operating System Efficiency (OSE) calculations to meet project sustainability and energy efficiency requirements.
Review mechanical utility systems in preparation for Testing & Commissioning (T&C), qualification, and validation activities.
Coordinate utility requirements with process, manufacturing, and R&D equipment suppliers.
Develop utility demand schedules and perform capacity assessments for facility expansion projects.
Provide engineering support during tendering activities, including preparation of technical specifications, bidder briefings, tender evaluations, and technical clarifications.
Develop and maintain project execution plans, schedules, and engineering progress tracking.
Prepare and maintain comprehensive project documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
Interface with clients to establish design requirements, utility demands, project objectives, and technical solutions.
Coordinate internal resources, external consultants, vendors, and contractors to ensure successful project execution.
Clearly define and manage inter-discipline technical interfaces, responsibilities, and scope boundaries.
Work closely with CAD drafters and BIM modelers to develop, review, and verify engineering drawings and models.
Prepare Scope of Work (SOW), Bills of Quantities (BOQ), Bills of Materials (BOM), and technical tender documentation.
Perform hydraulic modelling and system balancing calculations for chilled water, condenser water, and process cooling water networks.
Evaluate pump selection, NPSH requirements, control valve sizing, expansion tank sizing, and system control strategies.
Troubleshoot design, construction, commissioning, and operational issues and develop practical engineering solutions.
Liaise with QA/QC personnel to ensure compliance with project specifications, standards, and quality requirements.
Provide technical support during construction, testing, commissioning, and project close-out stages.
Promote safe working practices and ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental requirements.
Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance on mechanical utility system design and engineering best practices.
Job / Skills Requirement:
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
Minimum 8-10 years of relevant experience in the design and implementation of wet mechanical utility systems for semiconductor, biopharmaceutical, laboratory, data center, or industrial facilities.
Strong knowledge of Chilled Water, Condenser Water, Process Cooling Water, Industrial Water, Pumping Systems, Heat Exchangers, Cooling Towers, and Central Utility Plants.
Familiarity with chilled water plant optimization, hydraulic calculations, and energy-efficient utility system design.
Familiarity with Singapore and Malaysia codes, standards, regulations, and authority submission requirements.
Proficiency in engineering calculations, technical specifications, and design documentation.
Experience with AutoCAD, Revit, BIM platforms, and Microsoft Office applications.
Familiarity with modern equipment, technologies, construction methodologies, and industry best practices.
Ability to advise clients, coordinate multidisciplinary teams, and provide technical leadership throughout project execution.
Strong communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
Willingness to travel and/or relocate for project assignments when required.
