The Senior Medical Laboratory Scientist – Molecular Diagnostics & Genomics is pivotal in advancing our organization's capabilities in genetic testing and genomic analysis. This role requires a meticulous professional with advanced technical proficiency in molecular biology techniques, including but not limited to PCR, sequencing, and bioinformatics analysis. The incumbent will lead and innovate laboratory processes to ensure the precision, accuracy, and compliance with regulatory standards in the analysis of genomic data. This position also demands superior problem-solving abilities, team leadership, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and scientific excellence. The Senior Scientist will provide mentorship to junior staff, oversee laboratory operations, and contribute to the publication of research findings, ensuring that the laboratory operates at the highest standards of quality and safety.

Job Requirements:

  • A minimum of 15 years of experience in a clinical laboratory setting, with at least 8 years specifically in molecular diagnostics and genomic technologies.
  • Master's or Doctorate degree in Molecular Biology, Genetics, or a related field.
  • Certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) or equivalent national certification.
  • Strong understanding of molecular techniques, including qPCR, NGS, and Sanger sequencing, with proven implementation experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in laboratory management and quality assurance in compliance with CLIA and CAP regulations.
  • Expertise in bioinformatics platforms and software for genomic data analysis.
  • Proven track record of publications in peer-reviewed journals, showcasing contributions to the field of molecular diagnostics.
  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to mentor and develop junior staff.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency in data analysis, interpretation, and statistical evaluation, with experience in scripting languages (e.g., Python, R) being an asset.
  • Thorough understanding of laboratory safety protocols and hazard management.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and present findings.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead laboratory operations focusing on molecular diagnostics, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and international standards.
  • Develop and validate new molecular diagnostic tests, ensuring robust methodologies and quality control measures are in place.
  • Mentor and train laboratory personnel on advanced molecular techniques, fostering a culture of scientific excellence and continuous learning.
  • Oversee bioinformatics analysis and interpretation of genomic data, ensuring accuracy and relevance of results for clinical applications.
  • Collaborate with clinical staff to ensure alignment of laboratory services with patient care requirements and departmental objectives.
  • Conduct research to innovate current practices, resulting in improved test outcomes and enhanced laboratory efficiency.
  • Prepare and publish scientific findings in peer-reviewed journals, contributing to the knowledge base in molecular diagnostics and genomics.
  • Manage inventory and procurement of laboratory supplies, ensuring cost-effectiveness and minimal waste.
  • Establish and maintain laboratory safety protocols and a compliant environment through continuous training and audits.
  • Act as a liaison with external stakeholders for laboratory accreditation and regulatory inspections.
  • Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) to maintain high levels of laboratory performance and quality assurance.
  • Analyze laboratory performance metrics and implement strategic improvements to maximize efficiency.
