The job responsibilities include:
1) Design Compliance
- Ensure construction matches approved architectural and clinical plans.
- Verify that each space is suitable for its medical function (e.g., operating rooms, ICUs, labs, imaging areas).
- Check compliance with healthcare regulations, accreditation standards, and infection control requirements.
- Make sure clinical workflows, patient movement, and staff circulation are maintained on-site.
2. Coordination
- Serve as the link between the clinical team, contractors, and engineers.
- Attend site meetings, design reviews, and coordination sessions.
- Resolve conflicts between clinical requirements and construction realities, such as ceiling heights or specialized room requirements.
- Work closely with biomedical engineers, MEP engineers, interior designers, and hospital operations staff.
3. Quality Control
- Conduct regular site inspections to ensure work meets design specifications.
- Check materials, finishes, and specialized installations.
- Confirm that critical rooms meet technical requirements, such as sterile conditions, positive/negative pressure, or radiation shielding.
- Raise reports if work deviates from approved plans.
4. Approval of Work
- Review and approve work inspection requests (WIRs) related to architecture or fit-out.
- Approve finishes, furniture, signage, and specialized installations.
- Ensure that mock-ups or prototypes meet functional and aesthetic standards before full installation.
5. Clinical Workflow Oversight
- Verify that patient and staff movement is efficient.
- Check room adjacencies for critical areas like emergency, operating theatres, ICUs, and support services.
- Advise on futureproofing, such as modular designs or flexible spaces for future equipment.
6. Documentation
- Keep accurate as-built drawings reflecting any on-site changes.
- Document observations, deviations, and approvals.
- Support preparation of handover manuals.
- Ensure signage, wayfinding, and compliance labels are correctly installed.
7. Commissioning Support
- Ensure spaces are ready for medical equipment installation and testing.
- Work with biomedical engineers and hospital staff to confirm proper equipment placement.
Assist in final clinical validation before patient use.
