Job Description

Job Purpose:

The Senior MEP Engineer – Swimming Pools & Water Features is responsible for the design, coordination, installation, testing, commissioning, and maintenance of specialized aquatic systems, including swimming pools, spas, fountains, waterfalls, ponds, and decorative water features. The role ensures projects are delivered in compliance with technical standards, safety regulations, sustainability requirements, and client expectations.

Key Responsibilities:

Design & Engineering

  • Lead the design and development of MEP systems for swimming pools, spas, and water features across residential, commercial, hospitality, and recreational projects.
  • Design and review pool filtration, circulation, water treatment, chemical dosing, heating, cooling, and pumping systems.
  • Develop hydraulic calculations, pump sizing, pipe sizing, and water circulation designs.
  • Coordinate with architects, landscape consultants, structural engineers, and project teams to integrate water features into overall project designs.
  • Evaluate and recommend energy-efficient solutions including VFDs, heat pumps, solar heating systems, and water recycling technologies.

Project Management

  • Manage projects from concept design through construction, commissioning, and handover.
  • Prepare technical specifications, design reports, BOQs, and engineering calculations.
  • Monitor project schedules, budgets, resources, and deliverables.
  • Coordinate with contractors, suppliers, consultants, and clients to ensure successful project execution.

Construction & Site Supervision

  • Review shop drawings, material submittals, method statements, and equipment selections.
  • Conduct site inspections to ensure compliance with approved designs and quality standards.
  • Monitor installation of pool systems, water features, waterproofing systems, mechanical equipment, and associated MEP works.
  • Resolve technical issues during construction and installation phases.

Testing & Commissioning

  • Lead testing and commissioning activities for pools and water features.
  • Verify performance of filtration, circulation, chemical dosing, heating, cooling, and control systems.
  • Ensure water quality parameters meet applicable standards and project requirements.
  • Prepare commissioning reports and handover documentation.

Compliance & Safety

  • Ensure compliance with local authority regulations, health and safety requirements, and industry standards.
  • Maintain compliance with applicable pool and water feature codes, water quality standards, and environmental regulations.
  • Implement best practices related to water hygiene, chemical handling, and operational safety.

Sustainability & Energy Management

  • Incorporate water conservation and energy-efficient technologies into project designs.
  • Support green building initiatives and sustainability objectives.
  • Evaluate opportunities for water reuse, rainwater harvesting, and energy recovery systems.

Team Leadership

  • Provide technical leadership and mentoring to junior engineers and technicians.
  • Support knowledge sharing and professional development within the engineering team.
  • Participate in technical reviews and engineering improvement initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Professional engineering registration or chartership is preferred.
  • Certified Pool Operator (CPO) or equivalent aquatic industry certification is an advantage.
  • LEED, BREEAM, or sustainability-related certifications are desirable.

Experience:

  • Minimum 8 years of MEP engineering experience.
  • At least 3–5 years of specialized experience in swimming pools, spas, fountains, and decorative water feature systems.
  • Proven experience delivering hospitality, residential, commercial, recreational, or public infrastructure projects.
  • Strong knowledge of water treatment, hydraulic systems, filtration technologies, and aquatic facility operations.

Technical Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of pool filtration, circulation, chemical treatment, HVAC systems for pool environments, and aquatic facility operations.
  • Experience with pump selection, hydraulic calculations, and water feature control systems.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, and MEP design software.
  • Familiarity with Building Management Systems (BMS) and automation controls.
  • Understanding of water quality management and pool safety requirements.
