Our scientific and quality teams collaborate across Microbiology, Quality Assurance, Quality Control, Manufacturing, Research and Development, Engineering, Validation, Regulatory Affairs, and Supply Chain to ensure that products, processes, facilities, and laboratory activities meet applicable microbiological and quality requirements.

The Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Microbiologist to lead microbiological testing, environmental monitoring, contamination-control activities, method development, laboratory investigations, microbial identification, validation, and microbiology quality programs.

The ideal candidate will combine strong technical microbiology expertise with scientific leadership, laboratory quality knowledge, data interpretation, and regulatory awareness to ensure reliable microbiological results, effective contamination control, and robust laboratory practices across regulated operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement microbiology strategies, standards, procedures, and laboratory quality programs.
  • Lead microbiological testing and analytical activities across regulated laboratory environments.
  • Perform and oversee microbiological testing of raw materials, in-process materials, finished products, environmental samples, water systems, and other relevant materials.
  • Develop, optimize, verify, and validate microbiological test methods.
  • Perform microbial enumeration, bioburden testing, sterility testing, microbial limits testing, and other applicable microbiological assays.
  • Conduct microbial identification and characterization using appropriate conventional or advanced techniques.
  • Support identification of bacteria, fungi, yeast, molds, and other microorganisms relevant to products and manufacturing environments.
  • Evaluate microbial isolates and investigate unusual, recurring, or potentially significant microbial findings.
  • Develop and maintain environmental-monitoring programs for controlled manufacturing and laboratory environments.
  • Establish sampling plans, locations, frequencies, alert limits, action limits, and response procedures for environmental monitoring.
  • Perform and review viable and non-viable environmental monitoring activities where applicable.
  • Monitor personnel, surfaces, air, water, equipment, and controlled environments for microbiological contamination.
  • Analyze environmental-monitoring trends and identify emerging contamination risks.
  • Investigate excursions, alert-level events, action-level events, and recurring environmental-monitoring findings.
  • Lead or support root-cause investigations related to microbiological contamination and laboratory failures.
  • Develop and monitor corrective and preventive actions arising from microbiological investigations.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of contamination-control measures and preventive actions.
  • Support contamination-control strategies for manufacturing facilities, laboratories, utilities, and controlled environments.
  • Assess risks associated with microbial contamination, cross-contamination, personnel practices, materials, equipment, and facility conditions.
  • Support aseptic-processing and sterile-manufacturing microbiology programs where applicable.
  • Conduct or support aseptic-process simulations and microbiological assessments where required.
  • Support sterilization, disinfection, sanitization, and microbial-control programs.
  • Evaluate disinfectant effectiveness, rotation programs, contact times, and application practices where applicable.
  • Support cleaning and sanitation validation activities from a microbiological perspective.
  • Conduct microbiological assessments of purified water, water-for-injection, process water, compressed gases, and other critical utilities where applicable.
  • Monitor microbial and endotoxin quality of water systems and critical utilities.
  • Support bacterial endotoxin testing and related microbiological quality assessments.
  • Develop and review microbiological sampling plans, laboratory procedures, specifications, and acceptance criteria.
  • Review microbiology laboratory methods, protocols, worksheets, calculations, and analytical records.
  • Ensure microbiological testing follows approved methods, specifications, procedures, and quality requirements.
  • Maintain accurate laboratory records, raw data, results, calculations, and supporting documentation.
  • Ensure microbiological data meet applicable data-integrity and good documentation requirements.
  • Investigate out-of-specification, out-of-trend, invalid, atypical, and unexpected microbiological results.
  • Perform scientifically sound root-cause analysis for microbiological laboratory events.
  • Assess the potential product-quality and patient-safety impact of microbiological findings.
  • Support deviation, CAPA, change-control, and laboratory investigation processes.
  • Review microbiological impact assessments associated with changes to facilities, equipment, processes, methods, materials, and suppliers.
  • Support qualification and validation of microbiology laboratory equipment and systems.
  • Participate in validation of microbiological methods, sterilization processes, cleaning processes, and laboratory systems.
  • Establish method-validation and verification plans based on applicable scientific and regulatory expectations.
  • Evaluate method suitability, specificity, sensitivity, precision, accuracy, robustness, and recovery where applicable.
  • Maintain microbiological reference cultures, control organisms, and reference materials according to approved requirements.
