Responsible for the end-to-end delivery, operation, and maintenance of passive network infrastructure, ensuring network availability, reliability, and adherence to SLAs across venues.
Key Accountabilities and Activities
Network Systems Delivery
Lead the installation, termination, testing, and certification of UTP, FOC (single- and multi-core), and structured LAN cabling according to TIA/ISO standards and venue requirements.
Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on existing cabling systems.
Use test and measurement tools (OTDR, power meter, Fluke testers) and document results for acceptance, handover, and audits.
Conduct site surveys and prepare accurate reports, BOQs, and material lists for new installations, upgrades, and maintenance.
Manage and reconcile inventory of passive network components to ensure timely availability for planned works.
Design and implement structured cabling overlays for events, maintaining clear separation between base-build and overlay networks.
Coordinate with active network teams for rack layout, patching plans, labeling schemes, and IDF/MDF readiness.
Maintain and update network drawings (AutoCAD/Visio) and patching matrices reflecting as-built environments.
Perform patching, dressing, and rack mounting of active devices, maintain patch cord hygiene, and provide L1 remote support under guidance of Network Engineers.
Ensure compliance with HSE/permit-to-work requirements and maintain a clean and safe working environment.
Communication / Documentation
Prepare technical documentation including site surveys, test reports, as-built drawings, patching matrices, and handover packs.
Document incidents, root causes, and corrective actions to support continuous improvement.
Communicate technical issues and work status to internal teams and non-technical stakeholders.
Provide accurate material estimates, cable run details, and resource requirements for planning, budgeting, and procurement.
Maintain up-to-date records in ticketing/work-order systems.
Problem Solving Skills
Lead diagnosis and resolution of complex passive network issues such as cable faults, patching errors, fiber breaks, and performance degradation.
Analyze recurring faults, identify root causes, and recommend practical long-term corrective actions.
Suggest and help implement improved tools, labeling standards, testing procedures, and documentation practices.
Provide on-site technical leadership during high-impact incidents or major events, coordinating with Network Engineers, vendors, and operations teams.
Proactively identify potential risks and propose improvements to enhance network stability and maintainability.
Qualifications and Requirements
Knowledge and Experience
710 years of IT infrastructure/network support experience, with strong exposure to structured cabling, campus LAN, and data center environments.
35 years in a Senior Network Technician or equivalent role managing field teams, subcontractors, and multiple work orders.
GCC / Gulf region experience preferred, ideally in large venues such as stadiums, airports, hospitals, campuses, or hospitality environments.
Proven track record delivering projects under strict SLAs, event timelines, and HSE/permit-to-work regimes.
Education and Certifications
Diploma in Computer Science, Electronics & Communication, Electrical, Telecommunications, or related discipline (mandatory).
Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Technology preferred but not mandatory.
Networking certifications such as CCNA, HCIA, CompTIA Network+, or equivalent highly desirable.
Structured cabling certifications (e.g., BICSI Installer/Technician, manufacturer certifications like CommScope, Nexans, Leviton, or FOA CFOT) are a strong plus.
Job-Specific Technical Skills
Expertise in passive cabling technologies including UTP, STP, fiber optic cabling, patch panels, LIUs, and structured LAN cabling systems.
Ability to design, interpret, and review cabling layouts, rack elevations, and event overlay cabling plans.
Proficient in cable testing and certification tools (Fluke DTX/DSX, OTDR, power meters, visual fault locators) and interpreting results.
Hands-on experience in rack dressing, patch cord management, labeling standards, and maintaining workmanship in IDF/MDF/DC environments.
Strong capability to prepare and validate BOQs, site inspection reports, material lists, and as-built documentation.
Knowledge of structured cabling standards (TIA/EIA, ISO/IEC) and best practices for campus and data center environments.
Demonstrated ability to lead technician teams or subcontractors, assign tasks, review work quality, and ensure adherence to SLAs, safety, and site procedures.
Basic understanding of active network devices (switches, routers, wireless APs) for patching, port identification, and L1 troubleshooting under guidance.
Expert in preparing BOQs, site inspection reports, technical drawings, and AutoCAD documentation.
