For one of our major infrastructure and railway projects in the UAE, we are currently looking for an experienced Senior Planning Engineer based in Abu Dhabi.

Job Description

The Senior Planning Engineer will be responsible for developing, maintaining and controlling project schedules to support successful project delivery within approved timelines.

The position will provide planning expertise throughout the project lifecycle, identify schedule risks, support project controls and coordinate with engineering, procurement, construction, testing and commissioning teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain and update integrated project schedules using Primavera P6.
  • Prepare baseline schedules, detailed execution programmes, engineering schedules, procurement schedules and construction programmes.
  • Develop resource-loaded schedules, recovery schedules and revised programmes.
  • Establish and maintain Work Breakdown Structures (WBS), activity codes, project calendars, milestones, constraints and schedule logic.
  • Collect, validate and analyse progress data across Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Testing and Commissioning.
  • Perform Critical Path Method (CPM) analysis, float analysis and schedule variance analysis.
  • Analyse productivity and identify potential delays.
  • Perform Time Impact Analysis (TIA) and schedule-impact assessments.
  • Conduct what-if scenario modelling and recovery planning.
  • Prepare weekly and monthly planning reports.
  • Produce look-ahead schedules, progress dashboards, S-curves, earned value reports and KPIs.
  • Coordinate with Project Managers, Construction Managers, Engineering, Procurement, Commercial teams, subcontractors and other project stakeholders.
  • Review subcontractor and supplier schedules and ensure alignment with the master programme.
  • Identify interface risks and monitor contractual milestones.
  • Support preparation of Extension of Time (EOT) claims, disruption claims and delay analysis.
  • Support forensic schedule analysis and contractual planning submissions.
  • Participate in progress meetings, coordination meetings, risk workshops and project reviews.
  • Identify schedule risks and opportunities and develop mitigation measures.
  • Monitor resources, productivity, equipment utilisation and construction sequencing.
  • Maintain programme revisions, schedule narratives, assumptions and planning records.
  • Support tender and bid planning activities when required.
  • Mentor Planning Engineers and Junior Planning Engineers.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • 8–12 years of planning experience within major infrastructure, railway, transportation, civil engineering or construction projects.
  • Strong and demonstrable experience with Primavera P6.
  • Strong knowledge of project scheduling, CPM methodology, resource planning, project controls and cost control.
  • Experience in delay analysis, EOT preparation and Time Impact Analysis (TIA).
  • Good understanding of FIDIC contracts and contractual planning.
  • Proficiency in Primavera P6.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Project, Microsoft Excel, Power BI and other project-control tools is advantageous.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities within demanding project deadlines.
