The Property Underwriter is responsible for evaluating, analyzing, and underwriting property insurance risks for commercial and/or personal lines of business. The role involves assessing risk exposures, determining appropriate coverage, pricing policies, ensuring profitability, and maintaining compliance with company underwriting guidelines and regulatory requirements.
Roles & Responsibility
- Review and evaluate property insurance applications, submissions, and related documentation.
- Assess property risks by analyzing factors such as occupancy, construction, protection systems, location, and exposure to natural catastrophes.
- Determine coverage terms, policy conditions, exclusions, and premium rates based on risk characteristics.
- Make underwriting decisions within delegated authority and refer complex cases to senior management when required.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with insurance brokers, agents, and clients.
- Negotiate coverage terms, conditions, and pricing.
- Provide underwriting support and guidance on property insurance products.
- Assist in developing business opportunities and retaining key accounts.
- Review risk inspection reports and recommend loss prevention measures.
- Collaborate with risk engineers and surveyors to improve risk quality.
- Evaluate catastrophe exposures and accumulation risks.
- Ensure underwriting activities comply with internal policies, regulatory requirements, and industry standards.
- Maintain accurate underwriting documentation and records.
- Prepare underwriting reports and portfolio performance analyses.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Insurance, Risk Management, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field.
- Professional insurance qualifications (e.g., CPCU, ACII, AU, or equivalent) preferred.
- 3–8 years of experience in property underwriting or commercial insurance underwriting working in the UAE.
- Knowledge of regional insurance markets and regulatory requirements.
- Strong analytical and risk assessment skills.
- Knowledge of property insurance products and underwriting principles.
- Negotiation and relationship management skills.
- Excellent English & Arabic communication skills, both written and verbal.
