Role Summary

Compass Project Consulting is seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor (Post-Contract) to support the commercial management and delivery of a major construction project.

The successful candidate will have a strong post-contract background and proven experience independently managing commercial responsibilities throughout the construction phase. Particular emphasis will be placed on variation management, cost control, commercial reporting, risk management, and contract administration.

Candidates with experience in modular construction, off-site manufacturing, or modern methods of construction will be highly regarded.

Key Responsibilities

  • Independently manage all post-contract quantity surveying and commercial activities.
  • Review, assess, quantify and evaluate variation orders, change requests and contractual claims.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate cost reports, forecasts, cash flows and monthly commercial reports.
  • Monitor project costs against approved budgets and identify potential cost risks and opportunities.
  • Provide commercial advice and recommendations to project teams and client representatives.
  • Manage interim valuations, payment applications and final account negotiations.
  • Review contractor submissions and assess commercial implications of project changes.
  • Identify, assess and report commercial risks, providing mitigation strategies and recommendations.
  • Support contract administration activities and maintain commercial records.
  • Participate in project meetings and provide commercial input to support project delivery.
  • Ensure compliance with contractual obligations, commercial procedures and reporting requirements.
  • Support procurement activities and subcontractor commercial management where required.

Candidate Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, Civil Engineering, Construction Management or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 10–15 years experience in Quantity Surveying with a strong focus on post-contract commercial management.
  • Proven ability to independently manage commercial and contractual responsibilities on major construction projects.
  • Demonstrated experience assessing and evaluating variation orders, claims and change management processes.
  • Experience preparing monthly commercial reports, cost forecasts and financial performance reports.
  • Strong knowledge of cost management, contract administration and commercial controls.
  • Experience identifying, assessing and managing commercial risks.
  • Familiarity with modular construction, off-site manufacturing or modern methods of construction is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of FIDIC and other standard forms of contract.
  • Excellent negotiation, analytical and stakeholder management skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and commercial management systems.
  • Professional membership with RICS, CIArb or equivalent is advantageous.
