Role Overview
The Senior Reinsurance Broker – Property & Engineering is responsible for structuring, negotiating, and placing facultative reinsurance solutions for clients across property and engineering lines of business. The role requires strong technical expertise, market relationships, and the ability to manage moderately complex placements while delivering advisory services to clients.
Key accountabilities:
Liaise with clients and external parties
- Negotiate and liaise with clients and underwriters in placing risks.
- Explain quotations, underwriting, scope of cover, and policy terms to clients.
- Understand client business needs and risk profiles.
- Present risks to market to obtain optimal terms and conditions.
- Structure and place facultative reinsurance placements in line with client requirements.
- Prepare underwriting submissions, slips, and placement documentation.
- Review and negotiate policy wordings and coverage terms.
- Maintain ongoing client and market relationships.
- Identify new opportunities and support business growth initiatives.
Property & Engineering lines
Communication
- Provide support to colleagues in matters relating to the maintenance of good client relationships including being a point of contact for appropriate clients and managing relationships with them.
- Maintain regular contact with colleagues to keep them appraised of matters of which they should be aware.
- Develop relationships with Howden's markets and report market developments to colleagues on an ongoing basis.
Compliance

- Ensure adherence to internal policies and local regulatory requirements (Insurance Authority).

- Contribute to Professional Development Plan (PDP) and identify training needs.
- Undertake appropriate learning and Continuous Professional Development (CPD) as required for current/future job roles.
- Maintain awareness of relevant external and internal regulatory developments, current market practice and initiatives to ensure opportunities and threats are acted upon.

Qualifications and experience:
Education
- Bachelor's degree in finance, Engineering, Insurance, Business Administration, or related field
- CII qualifications such as Certificate desirable.
Technical Skills
- Strong knowledge of:
- Property risks (industrial, commercial, energy)
- Engineering insurance (CAR, EAR, MB, ALOP/DSU)
- Facultative and Treaty reinsurance structures
- Strong analytical and negotiation skills.
Knowledge of:
- IT systems, e.g. Microsoft Office and specific industry systems such as Crystal, SARB, Twins and Lloyd's QA tool or any other equivalent systems
- General knowledge of insurance/broker/reinsurance markets and the processes of a London Insurance Broker.

- 5-8+ years of experience in reinsurance brokerage
