Job Description

Job Purpose:

Senior SAP Transportation Management (TMS) Consultant with 6+ years of hands-on experience in implementing, supporting, and optimizing SAP TMS solutions. The candidate will manage complex configuration, integration, and custom development initiatives, ensuring optimized transportation processes, real-time visibility, integration with SAP ERP, HR, thirdparty systems, and AVL/telematics devices.

Roles & Responsibilities (SAP TMS Best Practices)

1. Implementation & Configuration

  • Lead end-to-end SAP TM projects including blueprinting, requirement gathering, solution design, configuration, testing, deployment, and go-live support.
  • Configure SAP TM modules:
  • Order Management manage transportation requirements (sales orders, purchase orders, stock transfer, returns).
  • Transportation Planning & Optimization planning cockpit, planning profiles, load planning, TM optimizer.
  • Tendering & Subcontracting freight tendering, rate determination, subcontracting freight orders.
  • Event Management / Execution shipment tracking, deviation alerts, integration with SAP Event Management.
  • Freight Settlement & Charge Calculation cost calculation, freight agreements, settlement with ERP.
  • Master Data & Transportation Network Management business partners, resources, locations, network.
  • Driver Trip Allowance & HR Integration configure allowances and interface with payroll.
  • Empty Container & Capacity Planning resource management, qualifications, downtime handling.
  • AVL / Telematics Devices Configuration configure, monitor, and integrate vehicle tracking devices to TM and driver apps; define device parameters, geofencing, alerts, and temperature/real-time data capture.

2. Integration & Custom Development

  • Lead integration with SAP ERP modules (FI, CO, MM, SD, HR) and third-party systems (VTS, telematics, carriers).
  • Work with developers to design and implement custom enhancements, reports, APIs, BAPIs,
  • RFCs, Function Modules, BADIs, User Exits.
  • Build dashboards, reports, and Fiori apps for real-time monitoring, including AVL data visualization.
  • Mentor junior consultants and developers on functional and technical implementations.

3. Business Analysis & Optimization

  • Analyze transportation business processes and propose optimization strategies.
  • Use TM optimizer and planning cockpit for simulations and load optimization.
  • Define planning and selection profiles, optimization parameters, and load-building rules.
  • Monitor KPIs, identify bottlenecks, and recommend corrective actions, including vehicle utilization and telematics performance.

4. Knowledge Transfer & Stakeholder Management

  • Conduct workshops and training for business and IT stakeholders.
  • Act as liaison between business users and technical team; document requirements and ensure proper implementation.
  • Provide post-go-live support and stabilization of TM processes.

5. Advanced / Strategic Activities

  • Oversee or implement Control Tower functionality for real-time visibility and event monitoring.
  • Define capacity planning processes (vehicles, drivers) to match transport demand.
  • Lead driver-trip allowance setup and payroll integration.
  • Configure empty container handling and resource qualification processes.
  • Configure AVL devices for vehicle tracking, real-time monitoring, driver behavior, and integration with TM and mobile apps.
  • Mentor junior consultants and support teams, ensuring knowledge transfer adherence to best practices.

Qualifications & Experience

  • 6+ years hands-on SAP TMS experience with multiple full-cycle implementations or upgrades.
  • Strong functional knowledge of SAP TM modules: Order Management, Planning,
  • Optimization, Event Management, Billing, Freight Settlement, Control Tower.
  • Experience with Driver App, Vehicle Tracking System (VTS), AVL devices, Telematics, dashboards, and reporting.
  • Expertise in BAPIs, RFCs, Function Modules, APIs, BADIs, User Exits, enhancement points.
  • Integration experience with SAP ERP modules (FI, CO, MM, SD, HR) and third-party systems.
  • Experience guiding developers on custom developments, reports, and integrations.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

Preferred Skills

  • SAP TM Optimizer and planning profiles experience.
  • Familiarity with S/4HANA embedded TMS and Control Tower.
  • Consulting experience, including workshops, KT, and user training.
  • Troubleshooting complex integration and system issues
