Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Software Engineer with expertise in the MERN stack to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining web applications that deliver exceptional user experiences. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to define, design, and ship new features while ensuring the performance, quality, and responsiveness of applications.
Key Responsibilities:
Key Responsibilities:
- Own major areas of the platform end-to-end across MongoDB, Express, React, and Node.js — from design and data modelling through to deployment and production support
- Turn ambiguous problems and evolving requirements into clear technical plans, making and explaining the trade-offs between speed, quality, cost, and complexity
- Drive system design decisions: data models, service boundaries, APIs, performance, and how the platform scales as customers and data volumes grow
- Work directly with the founders to shape the product roadmap, bringing a technical perspective to what we build and in what order
- Raise the bar on code quality through thoughtful code reviews, sensible standards, and leading by example
- Mentor and unblock other engineers, helping them grow in ownership and technical judgement
- Take ownership of production: lead debugging and incident resolution, and improve reliability, infrastructure, and observability so problems are caught before customers notice them
- Identify technical debt and architectural risks early, and make a pragmatic case for when to pay them down
- 3+ years of professional software engineering experience, with a track record of shipping and maintaining production-grade systems
- Solid, in-depth understanding of Node.js, Express, React, and MongoDB — you can reason well across the frontend, backend, and database, and know the strengths and pitfalls of each
- A strong grasp of system design and technical trade-offs: you can weigh options, explain why you'd choose one over another, and know when good enough for now is the right answer
- High ownership — you treat the product, the codebase, and production as your own, and you follow problems through to resolution rather than handing them off
- Comfort working in an ambiguous, early-stage environment: you figure things out, ask the right questions, and move forward without waiting for a perfect spec
- Strong command of AI coding tools and the habit of using them as a multiplier, not a crutch
- Experience with cloud technologies (particularly AWS), infrastructure, and observability
- Clear written and verbal communication in English — you can explain a technical decision to an engineer and to a non-technical founder alike
- A degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or any equivalent engineering discipline
- A strong plus (not required): experience mentoring engineers, leading technical projects, or working in a startup or early-stage team
