Senior Software Engineer / Software Development Lead

Senior Programmer with Department Leadership Authority

Location: Cairo, Egypt | Full-Time | On-site

El Motahida Companies Group is looking for an experienced Senior Software Engineer / Software Development Lead to join our Software Development & Systems Department and take a leading role in developing, securing, standardizing, and managing our software products.

This is not a conventional Senior Programmer position. The selected candidate will be expected to combine advanced hands-on software development with technical leadership and delegated department-management responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the technical development of desktop, web, server-based, and AI-supported applications.
Participate directly in software architecture, coding, code review, debugging, optimization, and technical problem solving.
Establish and enforce unified Software Development Standards across the development team.
Define coding standards, naming conventions, project structures, documentation standards, and development procedures.
Standardize development environments, libraries, frameworks, repositories, branching strategies, and version-control procedures.
Review developers work and ensure compliance with approved technical standards.
Distribute technical tasks and follow up development progress according to approved project plans.
Participate in evaluating developers and identifying technical training requirements.

Software Security & Secure Development

The successful candidate will be responsible for establishing a practical Secure Software Development Framework, including:

Secure Coding Standards.
Application-level security controls.
Authentication and authorization standards.
Protection of sensitive application data.
Secure API design.
Code review and vulnerability reduction.
Dependency and third-party library control.
Protection against unauthorized modification or software tampering.
Secure handling of configuration files, credentials, API keys, and secrets.

The role will coordinate with the IT, Cybersecurity & Digital Infrastructure Department regarding servers, infrastructure, production environments, network security, hosting, and access control, without duplicating infrastructure-security responsibilities.

Release, Updates & Version Management

The candidate will establish a unified system for:

Software Versioning.
Release Management.
Testing before release.
Release Candidate approval.
Update and Patch Management.
Rollback procedures.
Change logs and Release Notes.
Controlled deployment.
Update compatibility verification.
Backup and recovery procedures before major updates.

Each official release should be traceable through an approved version number, release date, changes, responsible developer, testing status, and deployment status.

Software Activation & Licensing System

An important responsibility of the position will be to design and manage a secure Software Activation & Licensing System, including where applicable:

Product activation.
License generation and validation.
Device-based or server-based licensing.
Offline and Online Activation.
License expiry and renewal.
Customer/license database.
License revocation and transfer.
Protection against unauthorized copying or activation.
Product editions and feature-based licensing.
Update entitlement according to license status.
Secure communication between applications and licensing services.
Audit logs for activation and license changes.

The system must be scalable for El Motahida's current and future software products.

Technical Governance

The role will also help establish:

Development → Code Review → Security Review → Testing → Release Candidate → Approval → Deployment → Monitoring → Update

with clearly documented responsibilities at every stage.

Required Experience

Strong professional experience in software development.
Proven experience as a Senior Developer, Technical Lead, Software Architect, or equivalent.
Strong understanding of software architecture and clean code principles.
Excellent knowledge of Git and professional version-control workflows.
Experience with databases and API development.
Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills.
Experience in application security and secure coding.
Experience with software deployment, versioning, updates, and release management.
Ability to review and improve other developers code.
Ability to establish technical standards and procedures for a development team.
Experience with licensing or activation systems is highly preferred.

Preferred Additional Knowledge

Experience in one or more of the following would be an advantage:

C# / .NET – C++ – Python – JavaScript / TypeScript – SQL – REST APIs – Desktop Applications – Web Applications – AI Integration – Docker – CI/CD – GitHub/GitLab – Application Security – Encryption – Licensing Systems.

Reporting Line

Reports technically to the Director of Scientific Research & Technical Development, with coordination with the IT, Cybersecurity & Digital Infrastructure Department for infrastructure, hosting, production security, access permissions, and deployment environments.
