To maintain a competitive advantage as we grow, we are currently looking for a new Senior Specialist Database Engineer

Job purpose:

The Database Engineer is responsible for leading the organization's database infrastructure strategy, ensuring high availability, performance, scalability, security, and reliability of all PostgreSQL and Microsoft SQL Server environments. This role manages the DBA team, drives technical excellence, and oversees database design, maintenance, monitoring, automation, and disaster recovery across enterprise systems.

Responsibilities:

Database Management

• Install, configure, and maintain database systems including Microsoft SQL Server and PostgreSQL.
• Ensure database availability, performance optimization, and scalability.
• Manage database upgrades, patching, and migrations.
• Design and implement database architecture for high-performance applications.
• Experience with cloud databases on Amazon Web Services

Performance & Monitoring

• Monitor database performance and troubleshoot performance issues.
• Optimize queries, indexes, and database structures.
• Implement monitoring tools and proactive alerts for database health.

Backup & Disaster Recovery

• Implement and maintain database backup strategies.
• Ensure disaster recovery procedures are tested and documented.
• Maintain high availability solutions such as replication and clustering.

Security & Compliance

• Implement database security controls and access management.
• Ensure compliance with organizational security policies.
• Manage encryption, auditing, and data protection standards.

Qualifications:

• 5+ Years of experience
• Bachelor's degree in IT or engineering
• Strong expertise in Microsoft SQL Server.
• Strong experience with PostgreSQL.
• Advanced SQL query optimization and performance tuning.
• Experience with database backup, recovery, and high availability solutions.
• Knowledge of database monitoring tools and performance analysis.
• Strong knowledge of Linux and Windows server environments.
• Leadership and team management skills.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
• Ability to manage critical production systems.
• Excellent communication and coordination skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of database automation and scripting.
• Familiarity with DevOps and infrastructure automation practices.
• HA/DR architecture (AlwaysOn, replication, failover clusters)
