Job Summary
A Senior Structural Technical Office Engineer is responsible for reviewing structural designs, preparing detailed shop drawings, coordinating with other disciplines, and ensuring all structural works comply with project specifications, codes, and standards. The role includes technical coordination, problem-solving on site, and providing engineering support during all project phases.
Key Responsibilities
1. Design & Drawings
- Review structural design drawings and ensure accuracy before execution.
- Prepare and check structural shop drawings, reinforcement details, precast design and details and bar bending schedules.
- Coordinate drawings with architectural, mechanical, and electrical disciplines to avoid conflicts.
- Ensure the structural drawings comply with applicable codes (ACI, BS, ECP, etc.).
2. Technical Coordination
- Attend technical meetings with consultants, contractors, and site teams.
- Resolve design discrepancies and RFI issues related to structural works.
- Prepare technical proposals, design modifications, and alternative solutions when required.
3. Documentation & Submittals
- Prepare material submittals, method statements, and compliance reports for structural items.
- Review supplier and subcontractor technical submissions for structural components.
- Maintain records of revisions, approvals, and as-built drawings.
4. Site Support
- Provide technical support to site execution teams during reinforcement, formwork, and concrete works.
- Inspect structural work on site to verify compliance with drawings and specifications.
- Assist in solving site issues related to structural works and ensuring timely execution.
5. Quality & Compliance
- Ensure all structural works meet quality standards and project requirements.
- Follow up on consultant approvals for shop drawings and materials.
- Ensure adherence to safety procedures during structural activities.
6. Planning & Coordination
- Participate in project planning, sequencing, and work breakdown for structural activities.
- Assist in preparing BOQs, quantity take-offs, and cost estimates related to structural works.
- Coordinate with procurement to ensure timely delivery of structural materials.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of structural codes (ACI, AISC, BS, ECP).
- Excellent experience with AutoCAD, Revit Structure, and structural analysis software (ETABS, SAFE, SAP).
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent communication and coordination skills.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and work under pressure.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering or relevant with minimum general grade good.
- 37 years experience in structural technical office work (preferably in contracting or consulting firms).
- Experience in large-scale construction projects is an advantage.
