Job Description

The Senior Surveyor will play a key role in delivering high-quality marine and engineering consultancy services to our clients. Drawing on strong seagoing experience, you will undertake a variety of marine surveys and technical assessments, including hull and machinery surveys, vessel inspections, condition assessments, and casualty-related investigations.

What will you be doing

  • Undertake marine surveys, inspections, technical assessments, and casualty investigations, determining the nature, extent, and cause of damage.
  • Prepare technical reports, repair cost estimates, recommendations, and client deliverables in a timely manner.
  • Lead or support projects to deliver high-quality solutions that meet client requirements, budgets, and agreed timescales.
  • Coordinate with clients, consultants, contractors, and other stakeholders to plan inspections and monitor project progress.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation, records, timesheets, and reporting throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Monitor and manage project Work in Progress (WIP), ensuring efficient delivery and timely invoicing.
  • Develop a strong understanding of ABL's marine and engineering consultancy services and promote these services to existing and prospective clients.
  • Support business development and marketing activities, helping to strengthen client relationships and identify new opportunities.
  • Attend internal, client, and third-party meetings as required.
  • Maintain a high level of billable utilisation and contribute positively to the performance of the wider team.
  • Promote a strong culture of Quality, Health, Safety, and Environment (QHSE) excellence, ensuring compliance with all company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Undertake additional duties and responsibilities as required.

What are we looking for

  • Chief Engineer (STCW III/2) or equivalent maritime qualification, with at least 5 years experience as a senior engineering officer (Second Engineer or above).
  • Minimum 10 years experience within the maritime industry.
  • Strong technical knowledge of vessel operations, marine engineering systems, maintenance, repairs, and applicable industry standards.
  • Experience in vessel damage assessments, casualty investigations, repair management, and technical reporting.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce clear technical reports and manage stakeholder relationships.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
  • Previous experience in marine consultancy, surveying, or technical advisory services is advantageous.
  • Shore-based experience as a Technical Superintendent, Ship Repair Manager, Fleet Manager, or similar role is desirable.
  • Experience with marine insurance claims, expert opinion reports, and client-facing consultancy work is beneficial.

Further Information

This position will be based at our office in Dubai. We can provide relocation and visa support.

The job holder will be expected to undertake onshore and offshore client assignments.
