The Shoe & Bag Cleaning/ Restoration/ Repair Technician is responsible for cleaning, restoring, and maintaining the appearance of shoes and bags across various materials. This role ensures all items are returned to customers in excellent condition, with high-quality workmanship and attention to detail.
Key Responsibilities
- Clean and remove dirt, dust, stains, scuff marks, and imperfections from leather, suede, nubuck, canvas, fabric, and other materials.
- Perform deep cleaning, deodorizing, and conditioning as required.
- Polish leather shoes and bags to restore shine and luster.
- Apply appropriate creams, waxes, conditioners, and finishing products.
- Identify different materials and understand their specific cleaning and care requirements.
- Select and use the correct cleaning products, tools, and techniques for each material type.
- Perform minor repairs such as re-gluing soles, fixing loose stitching, replacing laces, and minor hardware adjustments.
- Assess and treat various types of stains using appropriate stain-removal methods and chemicals.
- Maintain, clean, and organize all tools and equipment including brushes, polishers,cleaning machines, and workstations.
- Ensure all items are properly labeled, tracked, and stored.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
- Document services performed, materials used, repair notes, and any special customer instructions.
- Inspect footwear and leather goods to determine repair needs and provide accurate estimates.
- Perform a wide range of repairs, including:
- Sole and heel replacement
- Stitching and patching
- Zipper replacement
- Stretching and resizing
- Polishing, cleaning, and refinishing
- Operate shoe repair machinery such as grinders, sewing machines, presses, and finishing equipment.
- Cut, shape, and attach materials such as leather, rubber, and synthetic components.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workspace.
- Provide excellent customer service by explaining repair options, timelines, and care instructions.
- Manage inventory of materials, tools, and supplies.
Ensure all repairs meet quality standards and are completed within agreed timelines
Key Skills & Competencies
- Knowledge of shoe or bag materials and their care requirements.
- Minimum 1 year of experience in shoe cleaning, polishing, or repair.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality work.
- Good customer service and communication skills.
- Physical stamina for long periods of standing and hands-on work.
- Ability to operate and maintain cleaning equipment.
