Job Description

Short Form Video Editor

EDGENIE · SOCIAL MEDIA

Location  Dubai — office-based

Type  Full-time

Reports to  Innovation & Growth Manager, working day-to-day with our Content Producer and the CEO

About EdGenie

EdGenie is one of the UK's fastest-growing A-Level support platforms, helping students achieve A/A*s through examiner-led teaching, live masterclasses and 24/7 feedback. We teach eight subjects, we back our results with a grade guarantee, and we're scaling fast.

Our content already reaches a serious audience. We're hiring to raise the quality bar on every second of it.

Where We Are

15M+   views across our social accounts in the last six months

1,500   students on the platform

9 x social accounts

60k  combined followers across TikTok

The Role

This is an editing role first, with a camera in your hand second.

You'll be the person who turns raw footage into content people actually finish watching — short-form for TikTok, Reels and Shorts, and long-form for YouTube. You'll also be capturing a constant stream of behind-the-scenes footage as you go.

Strategy and the content calendar sit with our Content Producer. Your job is craft and output: the cut, the pacing, the hook, the packaging, and the volume to sustain it.

That said, we don't want a pair of hands. If you spot something worth filming, film it. If you think a hook is weak, say so.

What You'll Own

Short-Form Editing
  • Roughly 10-20  publish-ready short-form videos per week, with same-day turnaround on trend-driven pieces
  • Retention engineering: hooks, pattern interrupts, pacing, payoffs. Driving Average View Duration and completion rate
  • Repurposing masterclasses, webinars and podcast footage into short-form assets
  • Sound design, subtitles, B-roll and light motion graphics
  • Cutting hook and angle variants for paid social testing
YouTube Long-Form
  • Support on 1–2 long-form videos per week: structured 8–20 minute pieces built from masterclass, podcast and talking-head footage
  • Multicam editing and syncing across camera and audio sources
  • Long-form retention craft — cold opens, chapter structure, cutting dead air, keeping a 15-minute video moving
  • Chapters, end screens, cards and description formatting
  • Reading YouTube Studio retention graphs and applying what they tell you to the next edit
Capture
  • Constant BTS capture — office, shoots, filming days, meetings, travel, events. If it's happening, it's on camera
  • Shooting educator-led content: framing, lighting, clean audio (lavs, room sound, backups)
  • Directing on the fly — getting a natural, usable take out of a teacher who isn't a performer
  • Supporting filming days with shot lists and batching, so one session produces weeks of content
  • Vertical-first shot discipline — safe zones, framing that survives platform UI
Packaging
  • Hooks, titles, on-screen text and captions
  • Thumbnails — treated as a package with the title, and tested
  • Trend translation — adapting sounds, formats and memes to education without it feeling forced
  • Publishing natively to each platform
  • Keeping footage, project files, templates and the B-roll library organised and retrievable

You'll Thrive If You Have
  • 2+ years editing short-form content for TikTok, Reels or YouTube Shorts, with a portfolio that proves it
  • Real YouTube long-form experience — you can structure and pace a 15-minute video, not just cut clips out of one
  • Shooter-editor experience — you're comfortable behind the camera, not only in the timeline
  • Expert command of CapCut and at least one of Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve or Final Cut
  • A demonstrable understanding of retention mechanics — you can explain why a video held attention, not just that it did
  • Strong copywriting instincts for hooks, captions and on-screen text
  • Speed, reliability and the organisation to run short-form and long-form pipelines in parallel
  • A feel for the UK A-Level audience — 16–18 year olds and their parents. Their references, humour and register are specific, and content that misreads them doesn't land. If you don't have it yet, show us you can learn it fast
  • Awareness of music licensing and commercial-use rules — we can't be taking strikes
Bonus Points
  • Motion graphics (After Effects)
  • Graphic design (Canva, Figma) for thumbnails and carousels
  • Colour grading and audio repair on imperfect source footage
  • You've grown a YouTube channel or social account of your own
What Success Looks Like

First 30 days: shipping at cadence, brand style consistent across both formats, BTS capture becoming routine.

First 90 days: measurable lift in Average View Duration on shorts and audience retention on YouTube, with a long-form pipeline running weekly without chasing.

Practicalities
  • Dubai-based
  • We supply core equipment; your own kit is welcome
  • Filming days occasionally run outside standard hours
  • Students and minors appear in our content — you'll work within our consent and safeguarding process
Why Join EdGenie
  • An audience that already exists — 15M+ views in six months, and a clear mandate to grow it
  • Direct access to the CEO, growth lead and academic team
  • Clear line of sight from your work to student enrolments and revenue
  • A young, ambitious team scaling a business that changes students grades and university outcomes
  • Room to grow into Senior Editor or Brand Creative Lead as we scale
