Our client is an established technology company specialising in industrial software development and factory automation solutions for the semiconductor manufacturing industry. They develop advanced software platforms that connect manufacturing equipment with enterprise factory systems, enabling smart manufacturing, equipment interoperability, and digital transformation across global production environments.
As part of their continued growth, they are looking for a technically driven Software Engineer to join their engineering team and contribute to the development of next-generation factory automation solutions.
About the Role
This position is ideal for a Software Engineer who enjoys solving complex technical challenges involving industrial equipment, PLC connectivity, semiconductor manufacturing, and software integration.
You will develop robust C#/.NET applications that enable communication between manufacturing equipment, PLC-controlled systems, and factory automation platforms. Your work will focus on collecting production data, monitoring equipment performance, controlling machine operations, and integrating production equipment with Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES).
You will also be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining SECS/GEM and GEM300 communication modules to support semiconductor equipment automation and host connectivity.
This is a software integration role rather than a PLC programming position. While you will not be required to develop or modify PLC control logic, you should be comfortable understanding existing PLC programs, registers, machine states, alarms, communication protocols, and control sequences to build reliable software interfaces and troubleshoot communication issues.
The role offers broad exposure across software development, industrial communication, equipment integration, testing, commissioning, deployment, and production support within advanced manufacturing environments.
- Design, develop, and maintain software applications using C#/.NET for industrial automation and equipment integration.
- Develop software interfaces that communicate with PLC-controlled equipment to read and write machine data, including equipment status, alarms, recipes, production counts, process parameters, control commands, and machine states.
- Build reliable real-time communication interfaces using industrial protocols such as:
- Modbus TCP
- OPC UA
- Beckhoff ADS
- Mitsubishi MC Protocol (SLMP)
- Omron FINS
- Siemens Communication Protocols
- Ethernet/IP
- TCP/IP Sockets
- Serial Communication
- Vendor-specific APIs
- Design, develop, and maintain SECS/GEM and GEM300 communication software for semiconductor equipment integration.
- Investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve software connectivity, communication, and system integration issues.
- Support software testing, system commissioning, deployment, documentation, and customer implementation activities.
- Provide remote and on-site technical support during project implementation when required.
- Collaborate closely with engineering, product management, and business development teams to deliver customer-focused automation solutions.
- Follow software engineering best practices, including source control, code reviews, testing, CI/CD pipelines, and AI-assisted development with appropriate validation.
Requirements:
- Diploma or Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automation, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in software development.
- Experience with SECS/GEM and GEM300 communication standards will be highly advantageous.
- Strong hands-on programming experience using C# and .NET.
- Experience developing front-end applications using React.js.
- Experience developing Windows desktop applications using WPF or WinForms.
- Hands-on experience integrating software with industrial PLC systems.
- Experience working with at least one PLC platform such as Beckhoff, Siemens, Mitsubishi, Omron, or equivalent industrial controllers.
- Familiarity with factory automation, equipment control software, MES integration, or manufacturing systems.
- Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities with excellent debugging skills.
We're Looking For Someone Who:
- Has a genuine passion for software engineering and industrial automation.
- Enjoys solving complex technical and system integration challenges.
- Is naturally curious and eager to explore new technologies, communication protocols, and engineering solutions.
- Loves understanding how machines, software, and factory systems work together - someone who is truly a technology enthusiast.
- Thrives in a hands-on engineering environment and enjoys troubleshooting difficult technical problems.
- Continuously seeks opportunities to learn, improve, and stay current with emerging technologies.
- Works independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality solutions.
