Software Engineer((Java, SQL/PLSQL & Unix)

We are seeking a Software Engineer to develop, maintain and support enterprise applications within the banking and financial services domain. The role requires hands-on experience in Java programming, SQL/PLSQL, Oracle or Sybase databases, and Unix/Linux Shell scripting, with a focus on backend development, batch processing and application support.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, test and maintain Java applications using Core Java, OOP concepts, exception handling and Java Collections Framework.

• Write and execute SQL queries, joins, subqueries and PL/SQL procedures, functions and packages.

• Support database operations using Oracle or Sybase, including data validation, query optimisation and troubleshooting.

• Develop and maintain Unix/Linux Shell scripts using Bash or KornShell (Ksh) for file processing, job execution and task automation.

• Execute and monitor batch jobs, scheduled tasks, file transfers and backend data processing workflows.

• Perform application debugging, log analysis, defect investigation and basic root cause analysis.

• Conduct unit testing, integration testing, bug fixing and deployment verification.

• Assist with production support, incident resolution, application releases and change requests.

• Maintain source code, technical documentation, test cases and operational procedures.

• Collaborate with developers, business analysts, database administrators and application support teams to implement system enhancements.

Mandatory Skills & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering or a related discipline.
• 5 years of relevant experience in software development, application maintenance or technical support.
• Hands-on programming knowledge of Java, Core Java, OOP and Java Collections Framework.
• Proficiency in SQL, PL/SQL, joins, subqueries, stored procedures and functions.
• Practical experience with Oracle or Sybase databases.
• Working knowledge of Unix/Linux commands and Shell scripting (Bash/Ksh).
• Experience with batch processing, scheduled jobs, file handling and data validation.
• Knowledge of debugging, log analysis, exception handling and application troubleshooting.
• Familiarity with unit testing, integration testing, Git version control and software development life cycle (SDLC).
• Basic knowledge of Agile/Scrum or Waterfall development methodologies.
• Good analytical, problem-solving, communication and documentation skills.

Preferred Skills

• Exposure to banking applications, financial transaction processing or enterprise systems.

• Familiarity with job scheduling tools, batch monitoring and file transfer protocols such as SFTP.

• Basic understanding of application performance monitoring and production incident management.

• Exposure to Git, Maven, Jenkins and CI/CD processes
