The Specialist in Critical Care Medicine is responsible for providing advanced life support and comprehensive care to critically ill patients in the ICU. The role involves managing complex medical conditions, coordinating multidisciplinary care, and ensuring adherence to international and UAE healthcare standards (such as those set by the Dubai Health Authority or Ministry of Health and Prevention).
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Duties
- Assess, diagnose, and manage critically ill patients (medical, surgical, trauma, cardiac cases)
- Perform ICU procedures such as:
- Endotracheal intubation
- Central venous catheter insertion
- Arterial line placement
- Mechanical ventilation management
- Monitor and adjust life-support systems
- Respond to emergencies (code blue, rapid response)
Patient Care & Coordination
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans
- Collaborate with specialists (cardiology, neurology, surgery, etc.)
- Communicate effectively with patients families regarding prognosis and care plans
Administrative & Compliance
- Maintain accurate patient records and ICU documentation
- Ensure compliance with hospital protocols and UAE regulations
- Participate in audits, quality improvement, and patient safety initiatives
Teaching & Research
- Participate in clinical research and continuing medical education (CME)
Qualifications & Requirements
Education
- MBBS or equivalent medical degree
- Postgraduate qualification in Critical Care Medicine (MD, DM, FCICM, EDIC, or equivalent)
Experience
- 3–5+ years of ICU experience post-specialization
- Experience in tertiary care or multi-specialty hospitals preferred

- Expertise in ventilator management and hemodynamic monitoring
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to work in high-stress, fast-paced environments
