Job Purpose
The Specialist Health & Safety supports safe and compliant operations across aluminum facilities by implementing, monitoring, and improving Health & Safety programs. The role ensures alignment with MSHEM requirements, applicable Saudi regulatory obligations, and recognized international best practices, with a strong focus on risk management, compliance assurance, incident prevention, and continuous improvement to sustain a safe and healthy workplace.
Key Accountabilities
MSHEM Compliance & Governance:
- Promote and maintain compliance with MSHEM procedure, (but not limited to):
- Support audit and assurance activities in line with MSHEM.
- Monitor, track, and drive closure of non-conformances, findings, and corrective actions using approved Maaden EHS systems.
- Assist in maintaining HS documentation, records, and compliance evidence to meet internal and external audit expectations.
Hazard Identification & Risk Management:
- Conduct and support structured risk assessments
- Apply the Hierarchy of Controls to reduce exposure to Serious Injury & Fatality (SIF) risks and improve control effectiveness.
- Review operational documentation such as method statements, risk assessments, and work plans to verify that hazards, controls, and responsibilities are clearly defined and implemented.
- Conduct field verification and inspections to confirm controls are practical, in place, and consistently followed.
Incident Management & Learning:
- Report, record, and support investigation of incidents, near misses, and high-potential events in accordance with site and MSHEM processes.
- Participate in or facilitate Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and contribute to developing robust corrective and preventive actions.
- Support sharing of lessons learned, safety alerts, and improvement actions to prevent recurrence
Assurance, Contractor Oversight & Performance Improvement:
- Provide routine compliance assurance updates to line management, highlighting trends, gaps, and priority actions.
- Interpret audit results and performance indicators to recommend targeted HS improvements and strengthen operational discipline.
- Monitor contractor HS compliance per MSHEM, including verification of contractor documentation, inductions, and work execution controls.
- Support periodic program reviews and continuous improvement initiatives to raise overall HS performance.
Minimum Qualifications, Experience and Competencies
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in occupational health & safety, Engineering, or a related discipline.
Minimum Experience:
5-7 years of Health & Safety experience in heavy industry; aluminum production and/or mining experience is preferred.
Certifications (Preferred)
- NEBOSH, IOSH, or equivalent HS certification.
- Working knowledge of ISO 45001 requirements and application.
Technical Skills
- Practical capability in risk assessment methodologies
- Familiarity with the MSHEM framework, permit-to-work practices, contractor safety requirements, and audit/assurance processes.
- Ability to track actions and manage compliance records within digital systems
