Project Description
Bechtel has recently been awarded The New Murabba Project Infrastructure which will be built around the concept of sustainability, featuring green areas and walking and cycling paths that will enhance the quality of life by promoting healthy, active lifestyles and community activities. It will also feature an iconic museum, a technology and design university, a multipurpose immersive theater, and more than 80 entertainment and culture venues. The project will be situated at the intersection of King Salman and King Khalid roads to the Northwest of Riyadh.
The New Murabba project will offer a unique living, working and entertainment experience within a 15-minute walking radius and will have its own internal transport system. Position Summary
Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team in the Engineering Department, a Sr. Civil Engineer is required to combine technical experience and knowledge for the management of infrastructure design including design of earthworks, roads, storm drainage, public realm, and utilities by client's design consultants. He/she will support the
Civil, Structural, Architectural Core team Chief in managing and delivering designs in accordance with program and client requirements. He/she will coordinate and monitor development of design consultant's planned activities and provide progress reports highlighting plan performance. A key part of this role is collaboration with design consultant and client. Working with the Technical director/Infrastructure manager, the Sr. Civil Engineer establishes various regular meetings with all involved for coordinating and assuring the design.
Major Responsibilities
- Management of design activities and coordination of workloads for road design, storm drainage, and utilities.
- Plan, coordinate, manage and monitor the review of road design, pavement design, signage and traffic signals, road safety audit, parking studies, detour plans, earthworks, storm drainage, and utilities deliverables produced by the client's design consultant, including reports, providing feedback to the technical director/Infrastructure manager regarding progress, key issues, and risk.
- Perform civil site development design reviews and coordinate with other disciplines and departments for site development packages. Utilize computer and computer codes to perform site development analysis and designs.
- Manage the Implementation of Safety Measures which will include vertical and horizontal alignments Improvements to comply with latest road design standards.
- Review of the Site Grading Plan and coordination with the Utilities Design
- Coordinate and implement the outcome of traffic Impact study, transportation studies and geotechnical investigation into the roads design.
- Manage and review the public realm design in relation to signage and wayfinding system, lighting, shading features, pedestrian circulation, walkways, and cycle track.
- Coordinate response to comments raised on deliverables by subject matter experts, design review team, Independent Checking Engineer & Independent Safety Assessors.
- Ensure buildability of proposed design and material suitability.
- Coordinate engineering efforts in assigned areas between specialty and engineering groups or disciplines, with the client, suppliers, and contractors.
- Technical Support to stakeholder management team to obtain the required authorities approval.
- Coordinate and visit jobsite as required, to resolve problems, interpret drawings and documents and provide technical support during the construction phase.
- Review contractor's construction drawings, respond to technical queries and technical submittals to ensure compliance with design intent.
- Review Civil-Civil design and engineering studies prepared by local and international engineering firms.
- Participate in site visits and investigations led by designers.
- Take an active role in design reviews, client's Stage Review and Approval Procedure.
- Provide guidance for assured design quality and compliance with the client's requirements, design guidelines, statutory requirements, local and international codes, standards and norms, and international standards of independent firms carrying out detailed design.
- Participate in relevant meetings, prepare progress reports, and follow required checking procedures.
- Provide assistance and advice during procurement, construction and commissioning activities. For example, write requisitions, conduct technical bid evaluations, and write purchase orders.
- Ensure the required services meet Company, its customers, and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements, on time and within budget.
- Identify issues and problems, develop appropriate solutions, and ask for assistance when required.
Skills And Qualifications
- Civil Engineering Degree from accredited university with 12+ years of relevant Civil-Civil design experience
- Experience in various civil engineering design with emphasis in transportation and site development projects
- Experience in managing design/installation/operation/maintenance of Infrastructure facilities/assets Road work.
- Knowledge of Road Safety Audits requirements and Traffic Impact Study.
- Knowledge of earthworks, excavation, site grading plan including ground and surface treatment.
- Knowledge of parking design requirements and space allocation.
- Knowledge of public realm design and integration with roads design.
- Experience in design-build and design-bid-build procurement with contractors and consultants
- Experience in initial acceptance of Roadwork field construction and inspection.
- Knowledge of drainage, utilities and highway design (alignments, geometry, cross section, guide rail, traffic control etc.)
- Knowledge of Grade separated junctions, Signalized junctions, Road restraint systems, Traffic signs, road markings.
- Knowledge of AASHTO Pavement design and relevant discipline codes and standards
- Thorough knowledge of discipline engineering techniques, design of engineered systems and design calculations.
- Knowledge of current engineering and design computer applications including CAD (AutoCAD), Civil 3D, MS Word, and Excel for managing design reviews
- Professional license from recognized licensing or registration board.
- Excellent interpersonal, analytical and communication skills (oral and written).

- Excellent communication skills in English and preferably Arabic.
