Senior Design Engineer – Formwork

We are looking for an experienced Senior Design Engineer – Formwork to lead the design and engineering of safe, efficient and cost-effective formwork, shoring and scaffolding solutions for our construction projects.
Job Summary
The Senior Design Engineer – Formwork will be responsible for developing, reviewing and delivering technically sound formwork, shoring and scaffolding design solutions. The role requires strong expertise in temporary works design, structural analysis, technical drawings and proprietary formwork systems, along with the ability to lead junior engineers and coordinate effectively with project teams, suppliers and site personnel.
Key Responsibilities
Technical & Design Leadership
- Develop safe, economical and buildable formwork, shoring and scaffolding solutions for construction projects.
- Prepare and oversee the preparation of:
- General Arrangement (GA) drawings
- Assembly drawings
- Steel fabrication drawings
- 2D and 3D models
- Perform, review and verify engineering design calculations using appropriate structural analysis and temporary works software.
- Ensure designs comply with applicable BS Standards, UAE/local regulations, codes of practice and project specifications.
- Apply advanced technical knowledge of proprietary formwork systems such as PERI, Doka or equivalent systems.
- Prepare and verify accurate material take-offs, quantities and material lists.
- Maintain complete and accurate engineering documentation in accordance with company procedures.
- Ensure all designs are safe, practical, economical and suitable for construction sequencing.
Project & Stakeholder Coordination
- Attend technical and coordination meetings with project teams, consultants, clients and site personnel.
- Provide technical guidance and design support to construction teams.
- Coordinate with formwork suppliers, manufacturers and fabricators to develop optimal and cost-effective solutions.
- Conduct regular site visits to review implementation and resolve technical and construction-related challenges.
- Coordinate design requirements with structural, architectural and other engineering disciplines.
- Support project teams in resolving design and temporary works issues during construction.
Team Leadership & Development
- Plan, allocate, supervise, review and approve work produced by junior engineers, designers and draftspersons.
- Provide technical guidance, mentoring and training to junior engineering staff and interns.
- Review drawings, calculations and design packages prepared by junior team members.
- Ensure design outputs are accurate, complete and delivered within agreed timelines.
- Promote high standards of engineering quality, technical accuracy and professionalism.
Compliance & Quality
- Ensure compliance with company engineering procedures, quality systems and HSE requirements.
- Take responsibility for the technical integrity and accuracy of assigned design packages.
- Ensure proper design checking, documentation and approval processes are followed.
- Identify opportunities to improve design processes, engineering tools and technical standards.
- Support continuous improvement across formwork and temporary works design activities.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or equivalent relevant qualification.
- Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in formwork design.
- Strong experience in scaffolding and temporary works design will be an advantage.
- Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD 2D & 3D.
- Proven experience using structural analysis/engineering software for temporary works design.
- Strong understanding of BS Standards, codes of practice and regulations relating to formwork and scaffolding.
- Advanced knowledge of PERI, Doka or equivalent proprietary formwork systems.
- Experience with large-scale residential, commercial and infrastructure projects is preferred.
- Demonstrated experience in leading and mentoring engineering/design teams.
- Strong ability to interpret structural and architectural drawings and construction sequencing.
- Excellent technical judgement and engineering problem-solving skills.
- Strong attention to detail and accountability for design outputs.
- Excellent organisational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
- Strong commercial awareness and understanding of cost-effective design solutions.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Valid UAE Driving Licence is preferred/required as per project requirements.
- Willingness to travel to project sites as required.
- Candidates currently available in the UAE/GCC are preferred.
