Steel Fixing Supervisor

We are currently seeking an experienced Steel Fixing Supervisor to join our Oil & Gas EPC project team. The successful candidate will be responsible for supervising and coordinating all steel reinforcement works related to heavy civil, industrial, infrastructure, and oil & gas construction projects, ensuring execution is carried out safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project specifications, quality standards, and HSE requirements.

YOUR ROLE

As Steel Fixing Supervisor, you will be responsible in the performance of the following but not limited to duties and responsibilities;

Planning & Coordination

• Review structural drawings, bar bending schedules (BBS), specifications, method statements, and project schedules.
• Plan and organize daily and weekly steel fixing activities in line with project milestones.
• Coordinate with Civil Engineers, Construction Managers, QA/QC, HSE personnel, and other discipline supervisors.
• Allocate manpower and resources to ensure productivity targets are achieved.
• Forecast requirements for reinforcement steel, consumables, tools, and manpower.
• Ensure timely mobilization of steel fixers, foremen, and equipment.

Site Execution & Technical Supervision

• Supervise all reinforcement steel fixing activities for foundations, equipment bases, pipe racks, buildings, retaining walls, culverts, tanks, and other heavy civil structures.
• Ensure steel placement, spacing, laps, couplers, anchorage lengths, and clear cover comply with approved drawings and project specifications.
• Monitor installation of reinforcement cages, dowels, starter bars, embedded items, and inserts.
• Verify reinforcement works prior to concrete pouring activities.
• Ensure proper handling, cutting, bending, tagging, and installation of reinforcement bars.
• Coordinate with formwork, concrete, and engineering teams to avoid delays and rework.
• Conduct daily toolbox talks and ensure work readiness before commencement.

Workforce Supervision & Development

• Supervise steel fixing foremen, chargehands, and work crews.
• Monitor productivity, attendance, discipline, and workforce performance.
• Provide technical guidance and on-the-job training to steel fixing personnel.
• Resolve site-related technical and construction challenges.
• Promote a culture of teamwork, quality workmanship, and safety awareness.

Quality Assurance & Documentation

• Ensure compliance with Inspection & Test Plans (ITP), method statements, and QA/QC procedures.
• Coordinate inspections with QA/QC teams before concrete placement.
• Ensure reinforcement installation complies with approved drawings, client specifications, and applicable codes.
• Minimize NCRs through proactive quality control and corrective actions.
• Maintain records of completed works, inspections, and steel consumption reports.
• Verify incoming reinforcement materials meet project specifications and approved standards.

Health, Safety & Environment (HSE)

• Enforce compliance with project HSE requirements and safe work practices.
• Conduct hazard identification, Job Safety Analysis (JSA), and risk assessments.
• Ensure all personnel use appropriate PPE and tools safely.
• Promote safe lifting, material handling, and working-at-height practices.
• Report and investigate unsafe conditions, incidents, and near misses.
• Ensure compliance with Permit-to-Work (PTW) requirements and client safety standards.

Communication & Reporting

• Prepare and submit daily progress reports, manpower allocations, and productivity updates.
• Escalate site constraints and propose effective solutions to maintain project schedules.
• Attend progress and coordination meetings with project management and client representatives.
• Communicate project requirements and instructions clearly to the workforce.

Material & Resource Management

• Monitor steel inventory, consumables, and site resources.
• Ensure efficient utilization of reinforcement materials and minimize wastage.
• Coordinate with stores and procurement for timely delivery of materials.
• Verify proper storage and protection of reinforcement steel on site.
• Ensure tools and equipment are maintained and fit for purpose.

Concrete Pouring & Handover Support

• Coordinate reinforcement readiness for concrete pouring activities.
• Support pre-pour inspections, audits, and client approvals.
• Assist in project handover documentation and final inspections.
• Ensure punch-list items related to reinforcement works are closed out efficiently.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

Experience

• 10-12 years of experience in steel fixing and reinforced concrete construction works.
• Minimum 5 years in a supervisory role.
• Proven experience on Oil & Gas EPC projects, industrial facilities, infrastructure, and heavy civil construction projects.
• Experience managing large steel fixing teams on complex construction sites.

Education and Certifications

• Diploma in Civil Engineering or equivalent technical qualification.
• Additional certifications in construction supervision are advantageous.

Skills and Competencies

• Strong knowledge of reinforced concrete construction and steel fixing methodologies.
• Ability to read and interpret structural drawings, reinforcement detailing, and Bar Bending Schedules (BBS).
• Familiarity with international construction standards and reinforced concrete codes.
• Understanding of Oil & Gas HSE requirements, PTW systems, JSA, and risk management processes.
• Strong knowledge of rebar cutting, bending, fixing, couplers, embeds, and reinforcement inspection requirements.
