Job Description

PURPOSE OF DUTY:

To ensure the cleanliness and hygiene of the kitchen, utensils, and back-of-house areas by following high standards of sanitation. The Steward plays a crucial role in supporting kitchen operations by maintaining an organized and efficient working environment that aligns with the outlet's premium brand and standards.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Clean and sanitize all kitchen equipment, utensils, pots, and pans using approved cleaning agents and techniques.
  • Operate dishwashing machines and ensure they are cleaned and maintained regularly.
  • Maintain cleanliness of kitchen floors, walls, ceilings, drains, and garbage areas.
  • Dispose of waste and garbage as per hygiene and environmental regulations.
  • Assist in receiving and organizing deliveries; check for cleanliness of storage areas.
  • Ensure proper handling and storage of cleaning chemicals in compliance with safety protocols.
  • Replenish cleaning supplies and report any stock shortages to the Head Steward.
  • Follow HACCP and municipality guidelines regarding hygiene, sanitation, and food safety.
  • Support culinary staff during busy periods by assisting in basic tasks such as moving supplies or equipment.
  • Maintain personal hygiene and wear appropriate uniform and protective equipment.
  • Perform deep cleaning tasks as scheduled or assigned.

JOB ROLE SPECIFICATIONS:

Education & Certification:

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Basic Food Safety & Hygiene Certification is an advantage.

Experience:

  • Minimum 1 year of experience as a Steward or similar role in a high-end restaurant, hotel, or caf.
  • Prior experience in a luxury hospitality or fine dining environment is desirable.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong attention to cleanliness, hygiene, and detail.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Physical stamina to stand for long hours and perform physically demanding tasks.
  • Knowledge of safety procedures related to chemical usage and kitchen operations.
  • Basic understanding of spoken English; Arabic is a plus.

Working Conditions:

  • Must be flexible with working hours, including weekends and holidays.
  • Able to work in hot, humid, and wet environments (kitchen areas).
