The Role

  • Deliver strategic intelligence and advisory assignments focused on Asia and wider international markets.
  • Analyse geopolitical, political, economic and commercial developments and assess their implications for businesses, investors and other international organisations.
  • Conduct research and analysis into countries, governments, companies, industries, individuals and commercial relationships.
  • Assess political, regulatory, reputational and market risks relevant to investment, market-entry and broader strategic decisions.
  • Analyse political and economic trends, government priorities, policy developments and changing regional dynamics.
  • Map key stakeholders, decision makers, political relationships and networks of influence across government, business and wider society.
  • Develop and manage human-source networks to provide insight beyond publicly available information and test analytical assumptions.
  • Conduct discreet source-led enquiries across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Combine open-source research, human intelligence and broader contextual analysis to develop clear assessments of complex or uncertain situations.
  • Produce concise, commercially relevant intelligence and analysis for senior business leaders, investors and other decision makers.
  • Present analysis, assessments and recommendations directly to clients through written briefings, calls and meetings.
  • Work across multiple countries, sectors and geopolitical issues simultaneously.
  • Operate with considerable autonomy while managing competing priorities and deadlines.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years experience in consulting, advisory, international affairs, political risk, government, diplomacy, policy, strategy consulting, corporate strategy, think tank, investment research or related fields.
  • Strong understanding of the Asia region across politics, economics, business environments and international affairs.
  • Ability to connect political and geopolitical developments with their commercial implications.
  • Strong analytical mindset with intellectual curiosity, judgement and an ability to develop insight from incomplete or conflicting information.
  • Ability to rapidly understand unfamiliar countries, sectors and strategic issues.
  • Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to turn complex information into clear and concise assessments.
  • Comfortable presenting analysis and advising senior stakeholders.
  • High emotional intelligence and sound judgement, particularly when dealing with sensitive political and commercial issues.
  • Entrepreneurial, intellectually curious and self-directed approach to problem solving.
  • Strong academic background preferred, particularly in international relations, politics, economics, regional studies, security studies or related disciplines.
  • Native-level fluency in Mandarin Chinese or a Southeast Asian language useful.
