Job Summary:
The Structural Engineer – BIM is responsible for developing and coordinating structural BIM models, supporting structural design coordination, and preparing digital construction documentation for building projects. The role combines solid structural engineering knowledge with BIM methodologies to deliver accurate, coordinated, and code-compliant structural models that align with architectural and MEP disciplines throughout the design and construction phases.
Job Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain structural BIM models in accordance with project requirements, BIM standards, and applicable codes.
- Perform structural analysis and calculations to support load paths, member sizing, foundations, and safety requirements.
- Translate approved structural designs and calculations into accurate BIM models and coordinated construction documents.
- Support optimization of structural systems within BIM environments to balance safety, performance, and cost.
- Prepare and assist in reviewing structural BIM deliverables, including models, drawings, schedules, and reports.
- Ensure appropriate Level of Development (LOD) and data accuracy at each project stage.
- Coordinate structural models with architectural and MEP disciplines to identify and resolve clashes and design conflicts.
- Participate in BIM coordination meetings and support clash detection and resolution processes.
- Assist senior engineers and BIM leads in maintaining model quality and compliance with standards.
- Apply BIM QA/QC procedures to ensure consistency and accuracy of deliverables.
- Ensure compliance with local and international building codes, standards, and client BIM requirements.
- Support construction teams by responding to RFIs and technical queries.
- Conduct site visits as required to verify alignment between BIM models, drawings, and site execution.
- Assist in resolving construction-stage structural issues using BIM-based solutions.
- Support as-built modeling and project handover documentation.
- Collaborate with architects, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure smooth project coordination.
- Identify potential structural or coordination risks and report them to senior team members.
Job Knowledge & Skills:
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering.
- Minimum 5 years total experience.
- Minimum 3 years relevant experience in Structural BIM.
- Good knowledge of structural engineering principles for concrete, steel, and related structural systems.
- Proficiency in Revit Structure, AutoCAD, and basic coordination using Navisworks.
- Experience with structural analysis software such as ETABS, SAP2000, or STAAD.Pro, with the ability to integrate analysis results into BIM models.
- Understanding of BIM standards, workflows, and coordination processes.
- Knowledge of local and international building codes and regulations.
- Good communication and coordination skills within multidisciplinary BIM teams.
