Job Description

Description

Engineering is more than design and delivery at Zutari; it is the craft of shaping possibility.

As a leading buildings, infrastructure engineering, and advisory practice with over 90 years of heritage across Africa and the Middle East, we work across the full infrastructure lifecycle to deliver innovative, digitally enabled solutions. From bridges and dams to energy systems and smart infrastructure, our work connects communities and unlocks long-term value.

We are looking for technical minds who see beyond constraints and are driven to engineer solutions that matter, today and for generations to come.

Role Overview

The Structural Inspector (Bridges) will be responsible for monitoring, supervising, and inspecting structural construction works on bridge and related infrastructure projects. The role ensures that structural works, including foundations, substructures, superstructures, and associated civil components are executed in accordance with approved drawings, technical specifications, applicable codes, and project requirements. The Structural Inspector will provide on-site oversight, identify non-conformances, and ensure the highest standards of quality, safety, and compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect and supervise structural works including piling, pile caps, abutments, piers, pier caps, columns, retaining walls, decks, girders, parapets, bearings, and expansion joints.
  • Verify compliance of construction works with approved design drawings, technical specifications, method statements, and relevant international/local bridge and highway standards.
  • Monitor and review inspection requests (IRs), method statements, material submittals, and work procedures related to bridge structural works.
  • Conduct site inspections for earthworks interfaces, foundation works, reinforcement, formwork, concrete works, post-tensioning, precast segment installation, structural steel erection, and deck slab construction.
  • Inspect bridge components such as bearings, expansion joints, drainage elements, barriers, and other ancillary structural features to ensure correct installation and performance.
  • Review and verify contractor shop drawings and as-built drawings for structural accuracy and compliance with project requirements.
  • Record non-conformances, recommend corrective actions, and follow up on remedial works until close-out.
  • Prepare daily site inspection reports, progress records, checklists, and quality documentation.
  • Coordinate with resident engineers, design engineers, contractors, subcontractors, and client representatives to resolve technical and site-related issues.
  • Ensure strict compliance with health, safety, and environmental (HSE) requirements during all inspection and construction activities on site.
  • Witness field and laboratory testing related to structural materials and works, including concrete, reinforcement, structural steel, grout, and load-related testing where applicable.
  • Monitor construction activities in live traffic or constrained site environments, ensuring works are executed safely and in accordance with traffic management and project interface requirements.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Civil/Structural Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 7–10 years of relevant experience in structural inspection of bridge, highway, or transportation infrastructure projects.
  • Strong knowledge of bridge construction methods, sequencing, materials, and quality control requirements.
  • Good understanding of applicable standards and specifications such as AASHTO, ASTM, ACI, BS, Eurocodes, or equivalent bridge-related standards.
  • Familiarity with UAE infrastructure, road authority, and bridge construction requirements is preferred.
  • Experience in inspection of reinforced concrete, prestressed concrete, post-tensioned, precast, and structural steel bridge elements.
  • Experience working with international consulting or engineering firms is preferred.
  • Strong communication, coordination, and reporting skills in English; Arabic is an advantage.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and site inspection tools/software.
