The Sustainability Officer will support the organization's ESG and sustainability strategy by embedding sustainable practices at both corporate and operational levels, including data center operations, facilities management, procurement, and energy sourcing. The role ensures environmental compliance, operational efficiency, and ESG performance while safeguarding the resilience, availability, and regulatory integrity of mission-critical infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
ESG
- Support the development and execution of sustainability and ESG initiatives across corporate, operational, and supply-chain activities
- Align sustainability objectives with operational resilience, uptime requirements, and client SLA commitments
- Support ESG-related risk assessments, audits, gap analysis, and CAPs
- Ensure alignment with applicable environmental regulations, HSE requirements, and operational compliance frameworks
- Facilitate ESG and sustainability training programs, toolbox talks, and awareness sessions for employees
- Promote a sustainability-driven culture while reinforcing safety, reliability, and compliance priorities
- Provide recommendations for continuous improvement initiatives aligned with energy solutions, operational excellence, and ESG maturity.
- Collect, validate, and analyze sustainability data related to energy consumption, PUE, WUE, waste management, refrigerants, and carbon emissions.
- Assist in defining, tracking, and reporting ESG and operational sustainability KPIs, ensuring alignment with regulatory obligations and international standards.
- Support ESG reporting, sustainability disclosures, and client-specific reporting requirements (e.g., GRI, CDP, customer ESG questionnaires).
Procurement/Commercial
- Embed ESG and sustainability criteria into procurement policies, vendor onboarding, RFQs, and contract evaluation processes.
- Work closely with procurement and commercial teams to ensure sustainability requirements are contractually reflected (KPIs, reporting, compliance clauses).
- Coordinate with vendors and service providers on sustainability initiatives, energy solutions, and continuous improvement actions.
- Act as a coordination point with third-party consultants, ESCOs, utilities, and certification bodies supporting sustainability and energy programs.
- Work closely with external stakeholders (e.g., UPTIME Institute, sustainability consultants) on sustainability roadmaps and operational alignment.
Energy Efficiency, Renewable Energy & Decarbonization
- Support initiatives related to energy optimization, renewable energy integration, and efficiency improvements without compromising redundancy or availability.
- Support the evaluation, procurement, and commercial assessment of renewable energy solutions (e.g., green tariffs, I-RECs, PPAs, etc.)
- Assist in assessing the commercial viability, contractual terms, and risk profiles of renewable energy and energy efficiency initiatives.
- Coordinate internally with finance, legal, procurement, and operations teams to support energy-related contracts and sustainability investments.
- Provide input into decarbonization roadmaps, energy transition strategies, and ESCO-driven initiatives aligned with business objectives.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, Management, Business, Sustainability, or a related field.
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in sustainability, ESG, environmental compliance, energy management, or related roles.
- Experience with ESG data collection, sustainability reporting, audits, and regulatory compliance.
- Familiarity with UAE regulatory requirements, ESG frameworks (GRI, CDP), and management systems (ISO 14001, ISO 50001).
- Exposure to renewable energy procurement, ESCO models, vendor sustainability, or energy-related commercial contracts is a strong advantage
