Job Summary:
The job holder is responsible for leading the creative, spatial, and interpretive design of the Sustainable Solutions Pavilion, ensuring the exhibition communicates climate action, renewable energy, biodiversity, and ecosystem restoration in compelling, immersive, and educational ways. This role transforms scientific research, sustainability narratives, and policy insights into visitor-centered experiences that inspire awareness, engagement, and behavioral change.
The job holder ensures conceptual integrity, emotional resonance, technical feasibility, and thematic alignment with Expo 2030 sustainability messaging across all spatial, multimedia, and interactive components.
Responsibilities:
Exhibition Concept & Narrative Development
- Lead the development of the pavilion's master narrative, experience journey, and spatial storyline.
- Translate sustainability themes (climate, energy, ecosystems) into accessible, inspiring public experiences.
- Create narrative frameworks, interpretive strategies, and thematic sequencing for all zones.
- Ensure scientific accuracy while maintaining emotional and experiential impact.
- Align exhibition concepts with Expo 2030 sustainability objectives and global sustainability discourse.
Spatial, Interactive & Multimedia Design
- Develop spatial layouts, environmental design concepts, and immersive scenography.
- Oversee design of interactives, media installations, digital experiences, and hands-on learning moments.
- Collaborate with audiovisual, multimedia, and interactive technology teams to integrate content seamlessly.
- Ensure accessibility, intuitive navigation, and universally inclusive design approaches.
- Validate feasibility of design solutions through iterative prototyping and technical reviews.
Cross-Functional Collaboration & Stakeholder Alignment
- Work closely with curators, sustainability experts, scientists, and behavioral designers.
- Facilitate workshops and alignment sessions with content, research, and design partners.
- Provide direction and review for external design studios and technical vendors.
- Ensure all creative partners reflect thematic accuracy, design coherence, and sustainability values.
- Resolve interdisciplinary challenges and maintain alignment with pavilion objectives.
Design Management, Workflow & Deliverables
- Lead the full exhibition design process from concept to detail design and production documentation.
- Manage reviews, design packages, and iterations across project phases.
- Track risks, dependencies, and design readiness against project timelines.
- Ensure integration between architectural constraints, media systems, and interpretive content.
- Maintain documentation, design guidelines, and quality standards across all outputs.
Sustainability Storytelling & Educational Impact
- Ensure messages are evidence-based, scientifically rigorous, and globally relevant.
- Translate complex sustainability topics into interactive learning experiences for all age groups.
- Embed behavior-change principles, emotional triggers, and call-to-action moments.
- Validate content with sustainability experts, NGOs, and scientific partners.
- Create experiences that motivate visitors to understand, care, and act toward sustainable futures.
Educational Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Exhibition Design, Environmental Science, Environmental Design, Museum Studies, or related fields.
- Master's degree is preferred.
Professional Certifications Preferred:
- Certifications in Sustainability Communication, Environmental Interpretation, Experience Design, Multimedia Design, or Museum Education are desirable.
Experience:
- A minimum of 7 Experience in exhibition, environmental, or interpretive design. specifically within science centers, sustainability-focused museums, innovation labs, or major exhibition studios such as:
- Exploratorium, Science Museum London, California Academy of Sciences, Atelier Brckner, Event Communications, Expo 2020 Terra Pavilion.
Nature of Experience:
- Experience in sustainability communication, science storytelling, and environmental interpretation.
- Proven track record developing immersive learning environments and large-scale exhibitions.
- Experience leading interdisciplinary teams across design, content, multimedia, and scientific research.
- Exposure to climate, biodiversity, energy, or ecosystem-focused content development.
