Tax Consultant - VAT, WHT, Income Tax & Transfer Pricing
Role Purpose
The company is seeking a Tax Consultant to provide continuous tax advisory and compliance support across VAT, withholding tax, income tax, transfer pricing, and other tax-related matters.
The consultant will support Finance, Supply Chain, and Sales in ensuring correct tax treatment, timely compliance, proper documentation, and effective management of tax risks across customer contracts, vendor arrangements, cross-border transactions, and intercompany activities.
The role is intended to provide practical, business-oriented tax support on an ongoing basis, not only annual or ad hoc advisory.
Key Responsibilities
1. VAT Compliance and Advisory
- Review VAT treatment for customer invoices, vendor invoices, credit notes, contracts, and commercial arrangements.
- Support the preparation, review, and filing of VAT returns.
- Advise on VAT implications of local and cross-border transactions.
- Review VAT clauses in customer and vendor contracts where required.
- Support Finance in responding to tax authority inquiries, assessments, audits, and clarification requests.
- Identify VAT risks, incorrect treatments, or recoverability issues and recommend corrective actions.
2. Withholding Tax
- Review payments to non-resident vendors and determine the applicable WHT treatment.
- Advise on WHT rates, treaty eligibility, supporting documents, filing requirements, and payment timelines.
- Support monthly WHT return preparation, review, filing, and payment.
- Review vendor contracts before signing to identify WHT exposure and tax gross-up risks.
- Maintain a WHT tracker covering taxable payments, filings, certificates, and open exposures.
- Support Finance and Supply Chain in resolving vendor tax questions and ensuring tax matters are handled through the appropriate Finance channels.
3. Income Tax Support
- Support annual income tax compliance, including data preparation, reconciliations, schedules, and review of tax computations.
- Review tax provisions and tax-related financial statement disclosures where applicable.
- Coordinate with external auditors, tax advisors, shareholder tax teams, and relevant internal stakeholders.
- Support responses to tax assessments, inquiries, objections, and appeals.
- Identify potential income tax exposures and recommend appropriate treatment, documentation, or mitigation actions.
4. Transfer Pricing
- Support annual transfer pricing compliance, including disclosure forms, local file, master file, and related party transaction documentation.
- Review intercompany agreements, service charges, management fees, cost allocations, and shareholder-related transactions.
- Assess whether related party transactions are properly supported and aligned with arm's length principles.
- Coordinate with parent company tax teams and external advisors on transfer pricing matters.
- Maintain documentation supporting related party balances, charges, and tax positions.
5. Sales and Customer Contract Tax Support
- Support the Sales and Commercial teams in reviewing tax implications of customer contracts, proposals, pricing structures, and billing models.
- Advise on VAT treatment, invoicing requirements, tax clauses, and cross-border customer arrangements.
- Provide clear guidance on tax matters that may affect customer pricing, billing, collections, or contract execution.
- Review tax-related contract language to ensure the company's position is protected.
- Support Finance in ensuring that tax-sensitive commercial matters are reviewed before commitments are made to customers.
6. Supply Chain and Vendor Tax Support
- Support Supply Chain and Procurement in reviewing vendor contracts, purchase orders, and cross-border service arrangements.
- Advise on WHT, VAT, tax gross-up clauses, treaty documentation, and vendor tax obligations.
- Ensure tax implications are identified before vendor negotiations are concluded.
- Provide practical guidance to Supply Chain on tax matters that affect vendor pricing, payment processing, or contract terms.
- Support vendor discussions where tax expertise is required, while ensuring Finance maintains ownership of tax positions.
7. Tax Governance, Controls, and Process Improvement
- Develop and maintain tax policies, procedures, checklists, and approval workflows.
- Strengthen tax controls over VAT, WHT, tax filings, contract reviews, billing, and vendor payments.
- Establish tax review checkpoints within procurement, sales, contracting, invoicing, and payment processes.
- Maintain a tax risk register and provide periodic updates to the CFO.
- Train Finance, Supply Chain, Sales, and other relevant teams on practical tax requirements and common tax risks.
- Support ERP improvements to ensure correct VAT codes, tax classifications, and tax reporting outputs.
