Position
To contribute to the teaching and academic strengths of the M.Sc. Program in Islamic Art, including the pursuit of research funding and publication in high-standing peer-reviewed academic journals.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills & Experience
Ph.D. degree from an accredited university as required for teaching in the field of Islamic art and architecture history.
Minimum 6 8 years of experience in teaching at an accredited international university with evidence of increasing professional maturity and productivity
Evidence of proficiency in interdisciplinary research Islamic history of art and aesthetics of the Muslim World; research and scholarly achievements judged competent and adequate for the rank of assistant / associate professor in comparison with peers active in the same field at major research universities.
The candidate will teach and conduct research on issues related to Islamic art and architecture, help expand the curriculum in Islamic art history, and teach across the three emphases: history of Islamic art and architecture; museum and curatorial practice; history and theory of art; and Islamic manuscripts and archival materials. All candidates should have an interest in and capacity for collaboration with other academic disciplines at HBKU.
The candidate will have a track record of scholarly research, academic publications and a robust teaching record. The teaching and research specializations might include (but are not limited to) the history and theory of Islamic art across the Muslim World, (including Africa, Asia and the Muslim arts and architecture of the Americas and Europe Diasporas). Candidates might also be asked to teach courses with a focus on the historical ways of knowing Islamic arts and cultures and/or alternative ways of mapping arts, spaces and typologies.
The candidate will demonstrate excellent writing skills with the ability to communicate fluently and to articulate ideas clearly and concisely in the English language (Arabic proficiency will be an asset).
The candidate must have proficiency in MS Office applications.
