Aldar Academies are seeking a Teacher of EAL for Bateen World Academy commencing January 2024.

Bateen World Academy is located in the center of the city of Abu Dhabi and is a hugely popular school based in a vibrant community. The school is a high achieving British and IB World School (Years 7 to 13) easily exceeding IB Diploma global averages year on year and achieving outstanding I/GCSE results. The school recently expanded into primary years, starting with FS2 to Year 3, and developed this year to include a full primary provision, FS2 to Year 6. The Primary Years Programme (PYP) is an exciting addition and provides the community with an all through school experience from FS1 to Year 13 offering PYP, UK and IB Diploma options.

Responsibilities

  • Use WIDA resources and tools (WIDA Model, WIDA Can Do Student Descriptors, etc.) and additional data to plan lessons, deliver instruction, make goals for multilingual learners, and recommend instructional strategies for teachers and specialists
  • Guide multilingual students to progress in their understanding of academic language, content, instructions, and expectations
  • Meet multilingual students educational and language needs by using appropriate strategies, scaffolds, methods, assessments, and/or materials based on their needs, interests, and language levels
  • Collaborate with teachers and specialists to ensure language acquisition and achievement of multilingual learners across content areas
  • Co-plan, co-teach, co-assess, and co-reflect with classroom/content teachers
  • Organize effective support for multilingual students using push-in or pull-out model depending on the students needs and language proficiencies
  • Use a variety of assessment tools to guide instruction
  • Advocate for the needs of multilingual learners
  • Organize and maintain students records
  • Share students progress with families and staff
  • Deliver training and coach teachers in best practice for multilingual learners
  • Make effective use of ICT to enhance learning and progress
  • Maintain discipline in accordance with the school's Behavior for Learning Policy and encouraging good practice with regard to punctuality, behavior, standards of work and homework
  • Attend and support school events
  • Keep subject knowledge up-to-date through CPD and professional reading
  • Contribute to the school's ECAs by leading/supporting one after-school activity each term
  • Undertake duties as part of the staff duty rota;
  • Cover for absent colleagues
  • Any other duties as assigned by the Principal.

Qualifications


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Education or/English as an Additional Language/English as a Second Language/Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages.
  • PGCE or other teacher qualification.
  • Diploma/Associate Degree to teach English as an additional language, e.g TEFL/TESL/TESOL, CELTA/DELTA

Minimum Experience


  • Minimum 3 years of experience as English as an Additional Language Teacher

  • Previous experience working with students whom English is not their first language
  • Passion for teaching and commitment to educating the whole child
  • A high level of professionalism and consideration of the well-being of children
  • Recent and consistent involvement in extracurricular activities
  • Respect for all members of a school community, irrespective of position, gender, age and ethnic background
  • A clean enhanced Disclosure and Barring Services check or police check
  • Commitment to school's vision and IB Philosophy and Mission Statement
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Commitment to continuing professional development (CPD)
  • Excellent inter-personal/communication skills and organization skills
  • Previous experience with WIDA's resources and tools, co-teaching, and SIOP is essential
  • Previous experience with International Baccalaureate (PYP) curriculum is desirable, but not essential
  • A clean enhanced Disclosure and Barring Services check or police check
