Job Summary
The Teaching Assistant (TA) will support instructional, mentoring, and academic quality efforts in the Department of Electrical, Computer, and Biomedical Engineering. This role involves assisting faculty in delivering course content, guiding students in labs and tutorials, supporting student participation in competitions, aiding with academic advising, and contributing to accreditation and operational efforts.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist faculty in delivering face-to-face and online tutorials for courses in Computer Engineering and Electrical Engineering.
- Develop and share at least 15 solved tutorial problems per assigned course with students before the final week of the semester.
- Supervise and deliver all assigned laboratory sessions while ensuring full compliance with health and safety protocols.
- Monitor student progress and assist in evaluation and grading as required by course instructors.
- Support students in preparing for and participating in national and international competitions, providing technical guidance and coaching.
- Contribute to enabling top placements in such competitions by offering consistent mentorship and project support.
- Monitor and mentor students working on design-based course projects.
- Ensure that a significant majority of projects meet all functional requirements and design constraints by project deadlines.
- Collect feedback and provide reporting on incomplete projects, including obstacles faced and action plans for future improvement.
- Assist in debugging and troubleshooting student projects.
- Assist faculty and department advisors in contacting returning students regarding their required course registrations for the Fall semester.
- Help resolve registration issues, aiming for a high percentage of returning student enrollments.
- Support newly admitted students during their transition to registration, particularly for the Spring semester intake.
- Contribute to re-accreditation efforts for undergraduate programs, including documentation, data collection, and evidence generation.
- Assist in maintaining course portfolios and supporting continuous improvement documentation aligned with program learning outcomes.
- Maintain a safe and clean lab environment and enforce safety protocols during all lab sessions.
- Monitor and manage inventory of lab consumables, electronic components, and other materials.
- Perform basic maintenance and operational checks on laboratory equipment.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or master's degree in electrical, Computer, or Biomedical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with faculty and students.
- Familiarity with instructional platforms, lab tools, and design software relevant to the department.
- Excellent programming, debugging, and troubleshooting skills.
Preferred Skills
- Experience in competitive engineering design challenges.
- Familiarity with ABET accreditation processes.
- Proficiency in laboratory management and safety protocols.
- Prior tutoring or teaching experience is a plus.
