Job Purpose:
The Technical Advisor is responsible for supporting maintenance teams in the effective management and upkeep of the Caterpillar heavy vehicle (HV) fleet within the Open Pit operation. The role provides expert technical guidance based on extensive experience with Caterpillar equipment, ensuring maintenance activities are executed efficiently and in line with best practices. The incumbent will coordinate weekly planned maintenance as well as address unplanned work, liaise closely with OEMs and on-site contractors, and contribute to the development and execution of long-term fleet rebuild strategies to ensure optimal equipment performance and reliability.
Job Requirements
Education & Experience:
- Certified Heavy Equipment Technician with advanced OEM training (Caterpillar certification is essential).
- Minimum of 10 years experience in Heavy Mobile Equipment (HME) maintenance, including strong field diagnostics exposure.
- 3–5 years experience in a technical advisory or supervisory role within mining or heavy industry environments.
Knowledge & Skills:
- Strong technical expertise in maintenance and troubleshooting of heavy equipment.
- Proven ability to support maintenance teams with technical guidance and problem-solving.
- Effective planning and coordination skills for both planned and unplanned maintenance activities.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to engage with OEMs and contractors.
Technical Knowledge:
- In-depth understanding of engines, transmissions, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
- Advanced fault-finding and diagnostic capability across hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems.
- Knowledge of precision maintenance techniques and component inspection standards.
Systems & Tools:
- Proficient in Caterpillar systems including CAT SIS, ET, and VIMS.
- Experience working with CMMS systems, preferably SAP (not essential).
