Key responsibilities
As Technical Director, you will be responsible for:
- Leading civil and structural engineering design delivery and ensuring project objectives are met
- Acting as a senior technical authority, supporting design teams with direction and decision-making
- Liaising directly with clients and project stakeholders to ensure requirements and expectations are achieved
- Overseeing design quality, including drawings, specifications, and contract documentation
- Ensuring all designs comply with relevant codes, standards, regulations, and procedures
- Managing change control by identifying scope/schedule impacts and supporting planning and cost control
- Representing the discipline at external meetings and acting as a senior ambassador for the business
- Promoting sustainability and safety as key design considerations across all stages of delivery
- Monitoring team development needs and supporting performance through mentoring and structured feedback
- Supporting regional business growth through client relationship development and identifying new opportunities
- Contributing to recruitment and helping build high-performing teams to support future project demand
- Predicting and planning future resource requirements, including project plans and capability forecasting
What we're looking for (key requirements)
To be successful in this role, you will ideally bring:
- A strong degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (or equivalent experience)
- Chartered Engineer status (or equivalent)
- Extensive experience across a wide range of civil and structural technical areas
- Proven delivery of projects from concept design through to completion, including small and large-scale developments
- Strong expertise in civil and structural design tools, analysis methods, and modern engineering software
- Ability to deliver engineering outputs within budget, programme, and schedule while maintaining technical integrity
- Excellent leadership, interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills
- Proven ability to coordinate teams, plan resources, negotiate outcomes, and manage stakeholders effectively
- A collaborative leadership style with a passion for mentoring and developing others
- Strong problem-solving mindset and ability to thrive in evolving, technology-driven markets
